iPad Air 2 Distortion

Greetings, fellow Apple People. As you all probably know, the iPad Air 2 has a rather widespread defect which causes the LCD Retina Display to distort and discolorize when any pressure is placed on the right rear of the device. My 128GB iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi edition has been experiencing this problem since I u boxed it several minutes ago, and on my particular unit, it's terrible. Even the slightest tap of a finger on the rear causes severe discoloration on the front display, and there seems to be a permanent faint-blue mark in that spot. Funny thing is, I unboxed the tablet in-store, and immediately reported the problem to an Apple employee. He said "Oh, that looks pretty bad. Let's get you a fresh one." He came out of the back with a new tablet, and he took the liberty of u boxing it and testing it for the issue. It was nowhere near as bad as the one I initially opened, but it still happened. He showed me that it occurred on several of the display models they had out, and happily gave me the new one he opened, where the problem was much less noticeable.

While I'm pleased with Apple's great service, I still wonder why this problem seems to be universal on all iPad Air 2 units. Can anyone tell me if they've gotten a good model? Thanks, the help is greatly appreciated!

It seems that one company manufactures the iPad 2 Air 2014...

Brandon batted a 1000 in the Apple Store. Pressing on the back by the Store employee proved it.

Yes, I certainly believe everything I read on the Internet.

Amigo... does that go for your original reply as well? "There is no widespread..." He relayed an experience, you make an unsubstantiated statement. 6 of 1 - half dozen of the other.

Thats a bit silly. It is widespread as most units will have distortion on at least one spot in the back. if your unit is functioning properly However, no amount of normal griping force would cause it.

For your unit to never experence this is rare.

I don't buy any of this. There have been these bogus screen problem posts of one sort or another on every iPad model made. I consider this stuff just FUD and I actually have an iPad Air and have been using it for 2 months.

with apologies to Amia,

it seems you are actually addressing both of our points Jim. I wonder what motive Brandon might have for such an OP? It was very soft spoken and ultimately complimentary of AppleStore service. I also wonder what motive the other posters in the numerous threads regarding the iPadAir2 here in ASC have for this bogus behavior - as if Apple folk really are affected in any way by our posts or any others in the WebWildWorld?

As it appears that we have answered Brandon's issues...

"While I'm pleased with Apple's great service, I still wonder why this problem seems to be universal on all iPad Air 2 units. Can anyone tell me if they've gotten a good model? Thanks..."

why appears = one manufacturer

universal = not likely

widespread (our red herring) = can't be quantified

good model = yep = yours

... I'm out

Howdy bob... it seems that it matters more to some than others<(me). You know good and well a field trip won't do the trick! You really think those fine folk would let me unbox a plethora of iPadAir2s just to settle a dispute?? Let's see... how do I find a store if Locator for authorized repair/seller not working?

Santa Claus is coming to town...Watch - no wait! "Coming Early 2015" (means 2nd quarter according to the pundits) - and drat it! no iPhone (system requirements not obvious) - I think I believe the "Internet" before I buy into the hype. 👿

buenos dias, bob - as we say here in the Lone Star State, "I did not just fall off the turnip truck." <]:-) -- didya fall off a pineapple truck?

am I to assume that all those toys in the playroom have not been checked beforehand for the defect? A random statistical sample 'tis not, unless you're FoxNews or its ilk. Maybe I AM a bit naive when I believe that wide 'reports' are not motivated by a nefarious conspiracy to somehow hurt Apple's iPad sales. I didn't think the DRK could hack Sony either. You know from our 'alias changing' deal that I AM, in fact, Sir Paranoid Çurious Ç. Çat, Esq. Just can't see that articulate folk like Brandon would be part of a plot with so little potential reward. Trolls are usually not smart and certainly not organized - no wait, forgot about our friend P.......V......

PS - but ya know, I sure would like to handle one of these faulty critters, just to see for myself. Maybe Brandon will FedEx his new "not so bad" iPadAir2 to me to play with?

I've seen the YouTube videos on this and was about to scratch the Air 2 in favor of the Air. However, after playing around with both at Best Buy, the Air 2 was not anyway near as bad as the ones in the video. Normal holding of the Air 2 did not show the fingertip ghosting, though I could get it to exhibit the issue when I pressed on the back harder than what you would normally do. You must have gotten a bad one. BTW, the original Air also had a a very faint issue as well, though it was really hard to get it to happen.
