Hey Tom,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s an issue with the Remote app not responding as expected. The article linked below provides troubleshooting tips, which you may not have already tried, that’ll resolve most issues with iOS apps.

Working fine here, what device are you using and what version of IOS?
iPhone 5s 8.1.2 ishave a video of what's happening. but don't know where to upload it ;-)
You would have to upload elsewhere and share the link, although I would imagine it's more an issue with your 5S. Have you tried to reset?

Reset? like factory reset or youst reboot? I have tryed rebooting.. (Home and off button)
and i am now also trying my iPad to see if tis the same problem.
No, that would be a restore. A reset is done by holding down the home and power button for approx 10 seconds, releasing when the apple logo appears
Just to note, That link didn't have any video.
I Have Don the restart then...
the iPad is doping the exact same thing.
Sorry try this one https://www.dropbox.com/s/0a5tjsq6fprjbxm/Video%2025-12-14%2021.48.39.mov?dl=0
No, this a reset. Different from a restart. Follow the steps as above to reset.
Yes i have done the "reset" then ( home and off for 10sec). I do that often. And again the ipad is doing the same thing, so it can't bee the devices? did the vid. work?
No, just a black screen
I'm surprised as I haven't seen other reports and cannot reproduce on my end.
The link is Worning fine here. Trye again it is mostly Black sreen but an iphone is located in the center.
Ok, saw it. That's not so much flickering as being stuck in a loop of reloading. That can indicate a network issue.
If your Apple TV is on wifi I would try connecting via ethernet.
Also helpful to get a network report by going to istumbler, netstumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise and nearby networks.
The app is working fine for 10min. Or so, before it stats looping ;-). appletv is on an Ethernet cabel, and on 60/60 fiber. can it bee a port forwording problem?
Hi, I have the same problem like described. I think it is a software problem with the remote app. This app works a long time without any problems for me. The described problem started with the upgrade from version 4.2.0 to version 4.2.1. I did this update on my iPhone 5 as well as under my iPad 2 under IOS 7. My wife left her version of Remote app on Version 4.2.0 on her iPhone 5 and her iPad 3 and had no problem. Since this time I did a couple of IOS Updates as well on my iPhone 5 and my iPad 2 as on my AppleTV 3 (First Hardware Revision). Nothing helps!!!! The connection between iPhone/iPad and Apple TV is not able to reconnect after the connection timed out.
Today I have on all IOS devices the latest IOS Software running. The problem is still ongoing. From my point of view this is a Software problem with the app arrived with the last update of remote app only Apple can fix.
PS: My Apple TV is connected wired and uses no WLAN.
