Okay, I've tested once more. The only way to fix the problem is to go back to Version 4.2.0 of Remote app.
I found an old version on my Time Machine Backup and I downgraded it. With Remote App Version 4.2.0 it works fine again. The "flicking" is gone.
The Version 4.2.0 is working with IOS 8.x versions without problems so far.
It works for me with the following Hard and Software:
iMAC 27" Late 2009 with OS X 10.10.1
iTunes 12 Version 12.0.1.26
Apple TV 3 Gen (Model A1427 / Hardware Revision 1) with IOS 7.0.2 (6915)
iPhone 5 with 8.1.2 (12B440)
iPad 2 with 8.1.2 (12B440)
For me it is clear that this is a software bug coming with the last update of remote app to version 4.2.1. It is reproducible and could fix with a downgrade to Version 4.2.0.
Apple Support, please fix this problem!
Ok i'll wait for an app Update then. If they are avare of the problem.
Hi Jason,
Sorry but this is a Software bug in Remote app Version 4.2.1. I have the same problem since i did the upgrade. A downgrade to Version 4.2.0 fixed it. For more details please see my answer to the original chat from Tom.
I Think there would be a lot more reports if that were the case, and I have yet to reproduce. However, if you think so then you will need to give feedback and report the bug
I think there are l lot more reports! Take a look into AppStore and you will see that the last Version of Remote App got in the middle only 2 Stars instead of 4+ Stars for the Version 4.2.0. Many people describe connection loss between Apple TV and their IOS devices.
But much more important is for me the fact that a simple downgrade from Version 4.2.1 to 4.2.0 solves the problem. Nothing else would changed in my environment.
I have reported the problem under https://www.apple.com/feedback/ already. Because I have no developer account a bug report under https://bugreport.apple.com was not possible for me.
I have now read the reviews on the Danish appstore. and there are several which have the same problem.
There are a handful of such reports, they are far from widespread. It is quite obvious when there is a problem that afflicts everyone, the first 3-4 pages of the Apple TV forum are full of the same question and most of them have several hundred (if not thousands) of views and replies.
There is something else in your set up that is causing this. Next time this happens, see if something else resolves it, such as restarting the Apple TV or router.
Out of interest, do you only see one Apple TV on your remote, do you have a Mac on the same network running Yosemite.
maybe the problem is in my end. but how can it be that 4.2.0 works? I have both ipad and iphone. no mac ... I had only remote app on the iPhone to start with. before I downloaded the app for ipad, to see if the problem was the same. which it was ...

You may have some setting or condition on your network that 4.2.0 doesn't have an issue with. Let us know if restarting your router helps next time.
Please see my Hard and Software revisions earlier in this conversation. I did the update to Apple remote app Version 4.2.1 last year after it came out. During that time I used IOS 7.1.x on my IOS devices and OS X 10.9.x on my MAC. From this date on I had trouble with remote app. In the coming month I hoped that a IOS update for Apple TV or iPhone/iPad can resolve the problem but nothing happens. Now I'm on actual IOS Revisions with all my Apple items and the problem was still happened. Today I rolled back Apple Remote app to Version 4.2.0 and the problem is gone. Nothing changed in the environment. Only the Remote App was rolled back to Version 4.2.0.
If you has the possibility restore the old version from a Time Machine Backup and the problem is gone.
Sorry, I'm not really sure what difference that makes, could you expand on that please.
ok now I have tried to restart my router while the app looped. then the app said wifi missing doh ... and when it foundation wifi again, it went straight back to looping.
and also tryed the restart thing (home and OFF for 10 sec.) wile it was looping now. That maid it stop, but only like restarting the app. It's only working for 10 min. or so. Until timeout mabey?
Sorry, I don't understand much of that or how it would indicate that the updated app was not compatible with your network settings.
Oh, it's easy to explain. The Version 4.2.0 is working. With the upgrade to version 4.2.1 it becomes buggy! That's all. What apple changed with this update i do not know. The information in the AppStore is only that Version 4.2.1 will make remote app IOS 8 compatible. If you take a look at the file size you will see that it is much bigger than the older version.
Remote App v 4.2.1 = 29.4 MB
Remote App v 4.2.0 = 20.3 MB
The problem comes with the new code.
Sorry i'm Danish, and englis is not my Best ;-) i try again
