iPod nano 7th gen not recognised by iTunes. Mac (Yosemite)

I'm having the exact same problem, BUT while my iMac 27" Retina with Yosemite does not recognise my iPod Nano 7th Generation, my MacBook Pro Retina with the same software DOES recognise it. This is frustrating as I don't use my MacBook with my iTunes library normally. Anyone have any suggestions?

I too am having this same problem. I have tried all the steps you mentioned with no luck as well. However the iPod was recognized with an older MacBook with iTunes 11.4.

Having the same problem. Will show up on my actual macbook but not in itunes so i can't put anything on it or update it and so on. Works fine on my windows desktop but not my mac, the computer with ALL my music on it. Tried EVERYTHING!!!

Unfortunately Apple doesn't look at these forums, so it would have to be reported to them by someone with access to their reporting systems.

This is ridiculous. Apple's quality control has been flushed down the toilet. Everything about Yosemite and iOS 8 has been a disaster, even months after their official release. I'm not spending another dime on their products until and unless they get their **** together.

The fix is to uninstall Yosemite 10.10.2 and not to install that update (ipod will show in itunes in 10.10.1)

I'm having exact same problem. I've connected my iPhone and iPad to make sure there was nothing wrong with my USB cable or iTunes app and it recognizes both of them. It's just not recognizing my iPod nano. Tried all the steps you mentioned too. What's odd is when i close iTunes on my iMac, then i connect my iPod nano, iTunes will launch automatically like it's supposed to, I can also see it Finder. It just doesn't show up in iTunes so i can sync music. So frustrating!

?? Ted, this is the soulution via apple support on my Mac's applecare,. the bug is not with iTunes - it's with the last Yosemite (beta) update.. Guessing that you didn't install the beta, so it looks like I'm making fun.

interesting you should say this. i originally was using Yosemite public beta. Then when Yosemite was available for download, i've updated my iMac and currently on 10.10.2. (14C81h). Anyone else on this thread used Yosemite beta version first?

ok duh! i had no idea my iMac would continue to receive beta versions. 14C81h is the latest public beta, if you are on this version too, that may be why we are seeing this issue. hopefully, they'll have a fix soon. i've removed my Mac to receive pre-release versions and removed my apple id from beta testing. no more betas for me.

So, people who dont have a save on Time machine, how can we do a downgrade? I log off to not receive beta updates but I can't still sync my iPods
