iPhone won't send texts to Android phones

I can send texts to iPhones as either iMessages or SMS messages. However, I can't send texts to contacts who use other mobile devices (ie. Not an iPhone). However, I can receive SMS messages from non iPhones,

I've reset network settings and nothing has changed.

I only purchased my phone a week ago and have had this problem since new.

Any ideas anyone? Your help is much appreciated

Note: iPhone 6 16GB using iOS 8.1.2

iPhone X only texts to numbers saved as iPhone (v saved as “Mobile” or “Other”). Earlier iPhones sent texts to all mobile numbers. Not sure why the X is making me edit my contacts to rename their mobile phone numbers as “iPhone”.

You could label the numbers "Rutabaga" and it wouldn't have any effect. If you're only able to send numbers to people with iMessage enabled, you need to contact your carrier and make sure your account is has SMS services properly set up.
