Can I use a Dell P2415Q 4K monitor with my new MacBook Pro 13?

The 24" Dell P2415Q has a published native resolution of 3840x2160 at 60 Mz. It has DisplayPort input. Can I expect that my MacBook Pro 13 with Retina Display (Iris Graphics) will successfully drive this Dell monitor? Are there better 4K monitor options?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Just to clarify that to make it work at 60Hz you'll need mDP to DP v1.2 cable.

It will work like charm, except that your fans will run at about 3500 -4000 rpm all the time.

For sound you'll need to connect external speakers either via display or your Mac's aux 3.5 port.

The experience is overall great though 😉

Yes, I have the P2415Q running on my 13" early 2015 MBP and it works at 60hz no problem (1080p scaled to look like retina) it also runs fine at native 3840x2160 and all other resolutions if you wanted that. I just tested my wifes MBP (15" late 2013) and it works perfectly. Make sure you use display port and NOT hdmi.

Disable MST if it is enabled and everything runs smoothly! Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. Did the MBP late 2013 15'' have the Nvidia Graphics card installed? That's my question. If it has it, it is a known thing that it will drive the monitor 60hz, retina resolution no prob. Can a late 2013 Iris pro without the Nvidia graphics card do that?

I am thinking of just going any monitor after all as i don't do gaming or video editing i just use it for music software but retina is nice so since i get one it'd be good to be able to do 60hz retina resolution as well.

Yes this is without nvidia gfx card, just using onboard intel iris gfx. Honestly if you enjoy retina on your laptop as much as I do (the reason I chose this monitor) you won't regret it. Looks absolutely superb if your looking for pixel doubling, this will serve me well until I get a 27" 5k down the road or a 40" 8k (wishful thinking!). Hope this helps.
