The contact number IS Apple iPhone already. That's the point of the problem - both our phones are iPhones, both have iMessage enabled, Apple ID's, both phones have Facetime enabled, etc. and both phones can use Facetime, BUT for some reason my husband's phone contact in my contact list has the Facetime icon greyed (on his phone my contact is correct and is blue/enabled.) For my husband to reach out to me via Facetime he need only pull up my contact info and press on the icon - for me to reach out to him via Facetime I must open the Facetime app and initiate the Facetime call through the history of his previous calls to me. Apple customer service worked extensively with me on this and concluded that ALL of our settings are correct and Facetime SHOULD be working, and they confirmed that we are in a select group with this known issue.

On the hopeful side, we were just sent an update and with some luck the fix is in it! It's only been a couple days since we applied it - sometimes it takes a few days and/or cycling of the iPhones ON/OFF before the updates are truly complete. I'll post an again soon.

I was able to 'fix' this by resetting the phone's settings. Erasing and restoring from iCloud backup did not fix. I guess I'll have to do that on my wife's and sister's phones as well. I borrowed a friend's phone and added my parent's contacts and facetime icon showed up, so I think issue is that we previously had them as contacts while they had android, and something just isn't clearing in the phone's settings .

This is a simple fix, at least it was for me. The contact that I created originally was for an individual who did not have an iphone. I had the same problem with everyone else, but realized that I had created the contact before the individual had an iphone. I deleted the contact and re-estblished it and the facetime showed up. It makes perfect sense, I suppose. Apple doesn't go back and check if a previous phone had facetime, it just looks at current info. Delete and reestablish contact info and all should be fine.

This depends on how you're trying to use Facetime. Are you going through your contacts, or through FaceTime? Short answer, I've had to give up going through the Contacts app and go through the FaceTime app. That works for me. Hope it works for you!

Yes, it seems a bit odd that I can call some contacts through the Contacts app but others don't show the FaceTime option. This may or may not be the way Apple wants it to work, but calling through FaceTime seems to do the trick.

I had a similar issue, and what I eventually found is that I had two contacts--one for my daughter and one for her son--with the same email address. When she FaceTimed me it came from her son's contact, but when I a tried to FaceTime her through her contact the icon was not present. When I removed the extra contact the FaceTime icon for her contact reappeared.

Had this problem with some contacts not showing as FaceTime contactable. Checked their details on their contact card and found some were not up to date. I made the changes to each card to update them and now they show are being contactable through FaceTime. You need to make sure you have the persons correct telephone and contact details and that they are up to date. If not they can not receive FaceTime calls from you. It stands to reason that if you are trying to contact out of date details, FaceTime can't see them------they no longer exist.

My daughter got an iPod touch for Xmas (connected with an iCloud email). I accidentally had her FaceTime off on restrictions. My wife and other daughters saved her contact info while it was turned off. We turned it on and it works fine. I and others in my family saved her contact info after it was turned on and it works properly.

But on my wife's phone (and my other two daughters') contacts the FaceTime options still don't show up. My daughter can FaceTime my wife and my wife can use the history to FaceTime her but it still doesn't show in the contact or in the FaceTime app (other than history). We deleted the contact, toggled both FaceTime and iMessage on and off and toggled FaceTime restrictions on and off and none of it has worked.

I may reset and restore my wife's phone from a pre Xmas backup. That seems excessive just to get her phone re-evaluate the FaceTime connectivity of a contact. This is frustrating. Any other suggestions?
