Are 0800 help lines free, or are they charged under another number?

Are 0800 numbers free, or are they listed by another number on your telephone bill?

I have been on for ages for help, but can't find any 0800 numbers listed. The supplier suggested Apple has charged me for their support calls and listed them under another number then charged? Is this true? I can't find anyone to advise me. Thank you.

Good idea. Kappy and I went completely different directions. I read this is not having contacted Apple at all:

The supplier suggested Apple has charged me for their support calls

To me, that reads she was taking to a third party support firm. The rest is a bit vague, and I can easily see where Kappy interpreted it as a call to Apple, or through them.

Gosh I am so sorry for the trouble I have caused and for the delay in answering due to illness at home.

I am from the UK and we have free calls under 0800 calls. The reason I asked this question above is due to a telephone bill I got and a query on time used on calls, as this would change my contract with the telephone company. I asked if 0800 numbers were also added to the time used as this would make a difference, but I was not able to see those calls on my bill. The operator said yes these calls time would be added to the total duration of calls but there was no sign of any 0800 numbers used. She said that sometimes they are listed under another number? I find this weird, but as I have been getting help from Apple for problems with my laptop for quite long periods of time, I needed to know what number they would use and if I had been charged for this help by charging for the time, when I was under the impression I was getting it free under my extended warranty.

I have no reason to get upset with the help and support I got and still get from Apple as they are brilliant. I needed to know why those calls were not listed under 0800 when I called for their help under those numbers.

Thank you for all your time in this matter, tho probably not important to you, but I need to know. Carole UK (72)

Carole.

I thought I had replied to this but for some reason I cannot find my answer. 0800 is free in the UK. My concern is whether Apple are using the 0800 number as a link to Apple and then charging for the service element if you are not registered as under warranty or Apple care. I will try to check this out tomorrrow. I am not sure if it is legitimate use of the facility.

Assuming you're using a UK landline 0800 calls should normally be free. Mobile operators may charge for such calls. It is possible there is no record on your itemised bill because there was no charge, but perhaps the phone company has nevertheless included them in your total usage if you pay a fixed rate for a given level of use. We're only fellow users here so don't have knowledge of Apple's back end support systems, not those of your phone company. If the phone company is suggesting you should start paying more each month based on your recent usage I would try countering that you were dealing with a one off incident in what should have been free calls. You can always shop around for a new provider.

Thank you 71, that's much appreciated!

Also for the advice of Turingtest2.

And all others who tried to help me.

They are usually pretty honest firms so I find it quite puzzling that they would say its not showing yet duration of calls is taken into consideration? It is a landline I use for the calls. Also my contract is almost up soon so may make the move?
