Are 0800 help lines free, or are they charged under another number?

Are 0800 numbers free, or are they listed by another number on your telephone bill?

I have been on for ages for help, but can't find any 0800 numbers listed. The supplier suggested Apple has charged me for their support calls and listed them under another number then charged? Is this true? I can't find anyone to advise me. Thank you.

Hello Carole

I will check out the 0800 situation as promised. It runs via the National BT based system and applies to the best of my knowledge to most landline agreements although the moment you use a mobile, that facility could be charged for.

I can't speak for Apple but when I used their telephone help service they were very clear in the way they checked out that I qualified for the free phone service under my Apple care agreement.

Carole, you haven't been a nuisance at all. This is just the kind of question that should be raised but ultimately it will need to be negotiated with your telephone service provider. I have always found the phone companies quite flexible and I suggest you write up the event as clearly as you can then call and ask to be put through to a supervisor. It might be better not to talk about finding an alternative supplier unless or until you reach an impasse.

Thank you for the star.

The "free phone service" under Apple Warranty means has absolutlely nothing to do with the price/charging of the phone call itself. It has to do with the technical support for your issue.

Apple support phone number for UK is 0800 107 6285.

This is a toll free call (when called from landline) even if you do not have the "free phone service" under your Apple Warranty (past 90 days from purchase).

See this -> Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

There is also a 0844 209 0611 number which you are charged £0.05p per minute when dialed from a landline within the UK.

As noted by Lawrence, if you are charged for Apple support (more than 90 days after purchase), it is charged to your credit card, not to your telephone service.

Hi ChitlinsCC

Nos. 1 & 2 & 4 are correct

I have no idea if I was charged as I dont know what numbers may have been used for the 0800 No.

I think if I had have been charged a lot it would have showed up positively due to being on the help line for a couple of hours at one point, especially last month. Unfortunately they haven't sent me the bill for December yet so can't check that yet.

Thank you seventy one, and you are welcome. I should give you all a star for your help.

Chris CA: The number I use is 0800 048 0408, which also noted on apple webpage. I have made a note of that one tho. Thank you. Also, I have found no such charges on my credit card, so its not going through there?

It seems that if I am being charged it can't be a lot, yet tho the time used is being shown, the 0800 number is not being shown. That's what seemed so odd.

I am sorry if I have wasted your time but have noted everything and will contact my telecom firm for further information, as seventy one suggested.

My kind regards and thanks to you. Carole

Are 0800 numbers free[1],

or are they listed by another number on your telephone bill?[2]

I have been on for ages for help, but can't find any 0800 numbers listed[3].

The supplier suggested Apple has charged me for their support calls[4]

and listed them under another number then charged? [5]

Is this true? I can't find anyone to advise me. Thank you.

RECAP:

  1. YES. 0800 are free in the UK
  2. NO.
  3. You do not have a bill for December which would contain the listing for any numbers called
  4. Apple does in fact charge* for support calls after 90 days have elapsed from time of purchase of a device
  5. this would be charged to a Credit Card or Debit Card - NOT on your phone bill

I conclude from all of your statements that the primary reason for your concern is the statement made BY Some Unknown third party

" ... The supplier suggested Apple has charged me for their support calls and listed them under another number then charged? ..."

This WAS A FALSE STATEMENT! Call this person and set them straight. You will not see any charge for the call on your phone bill BUT WILL Likely see it on your Credit Card Bill.

Thank you for the contact you gave me Chris CA. I have been in touch but it was still a USA contact, but she was great and understood. She said there shouldn't be any charge but gave me a support number and the phone advisor may be able to help me get the numbers that could show up on my bill. So thank you again. This is the first time I have used this service and will certainly use it again!

Can I hear the groans from here (grin)
