Screen corruption

I have the same issue guys. My Mac mini 2014 is connected to a HDTV (Panasonic Plasma) via HDMI 1.4.

It happens on random, but only after waking from sleep (or deep sleep). I'd say 1 in a 20 wake-ups.

Since it's so darn unpredictable I'm hesitant to send it back for service (I don't think they will test it that extensively to catch the problem). They will probably blame it on the bad cable (I tested with a couple), TV or bad luck 🙂

What I noticed, and what is interesting is that when I go into color profiles and poke around (change to Adobe RGB for example), it switches back to normal. Rebooting and upluging HDMI cable does the trick as well.

It makes me wonder whether the color profiles that Mac assigns to the TV are corrupted.

Any advice would be appreciated guys. Photos below.

well, I had the exact same problem (funky colors) with a Mac Mini bought last week. Now that I see so many people experiencing the same issue (plus the "my HDMI monitor won't wake up") I think I'm not buying this again. Mine is on its way to Amazon.es (I'm from Spain) aftersales center and better will save the momey for the next model or some other stuff. Proud owner of a 2008 MacBook (whose display went to **** after 5-6 year), I'm really disappointed with Apple at the moment.

I believe I've fixed (or managed to avoid the cause of) my issue. I've been testing for 10-15 days and no sign of problems yet.

My scenario is pretty specific though, but who knows, it might help someone.

As you can see from my previous post (screenshots above), I had a pretty bad "Techicolor Rainbow" case, that occurred when waking up from sleep from time to time.

My Mac Mini is set up to launch XBMC (Kodi) after boot and is pretty much always on. I also set up sleep in XBMC (after 20 mins of idle state) and I made XBMC turn off my screen after 5 mins on top of that (I have plasma screen). After it goes to sleep, after a couple of hours it also goes to "deep sleep", as planned.

After the 10.10.2 OS X update I no longer had problems waking up, but the colour issues remained (as you can see above).

What I realized in the end was, that the cause of colour issues was the screen being turned OFF before entering sleep state. If Mac goes to sleep with screen ON the problem disappears. By turning off this setting in XBMC (now my screen only goes black after 5 mins - doesn't actually cut the HDMI signal) my Mac goes to sleep normally and wakes up without any issues. I can also wake it from sleep and deep sleep via remote without problems.

I am having this exact same problem. It first happened on my 2014 Mac Mini after about 6 month of owning it, even after the new update released last week. Took it in and Apple gave me a brand new one, and it began happening immediately when I got home. Went back yesterday and again, they gave me a brand new one, and this morning I woke it up from sleep to all kinds of crazy colors. I have tried HDMI, VGA, and DVI with several different cords of each and different adaptors for each, with no luck. I have also tried three different monitors with the same result. Each time we took it to the Apple Store the geniuses have all said they have never heard of this issue before. Yesterday when I asked what to do if it happens on the third new computer they gave me they flat out said they have no idea...

I just purchased a 2014 mac mini from the Apple Store and am awaiting it. I already have a LCD Monitor for it, a Samsung CD/DVD player, speakers, and mouse. I have a regular keyboard-but I just ordered an Apple one so I could get those special keys as well. The keyboard I have is a wired one. I have a USB hub for it as well-just in case I need it.

My home setup is:

Time Warner Cable Modem----to Netgear Router-----to Computer. I just saw the ethernet cables that are present and will be replacing them with an update each. I will be hooking up my Monitor with a HDMI to DVI Cable (DVI on the monitor) The monitor has HDMI, DVI, and VGA for hook up. I have been told that DVI is the best-guess I will find out.

When I set up the machine and then migrate the Data during set-up-I will then go into preferences and change the sleep cycle to never-so it won't put the display to sleep. I am seeing on the board all the people having problems with it not waking up or having a real hard time in doing so.

After being a Windows person (Windows 7) for so long this is a new adventure for me.

I just bought my Mac Mini (beginning of April 2015) and am having the same problem. I connect to my HP monitor via DVI connector. I also noticed that the problem corrected itself when I went into settings and looked at the Display settings.

Something to try...

I couldn't get a direct link to work. Don't know why. A user tried some things as advised by Apple support. It was posted (May 6, 2015 @5:52 AM) in this thread -- Re: Mac mini 2014 won't wake monitor via HDMI-- on page 15 by user -- warrenFS.

I came to this thread since I've been experiencing the same issue.

Originally I thought it's caused by my LG monitor but it happens for different cable/monitor.

The problem is that it doesn't happen all the time, it happens occasionally so it may be challenging to demonstrate to Apple store.

Just to update this, I also have a new MacMini 2014, had a HP Monitor with those issues on HDMI and DVI, I purchased a new LG Ultra Wide Monitor at Best Buy, the Sales Rep there told me it had to be my 4 year old HP monitor causing the issues, well guess what it's not, my new LG Monitor is having the same issue. I really think it's Yosemite causing this issue because a while ago I had this same issues running a second monitor from my 2008 MBP, DVI input with Yosemite running on it, I finally decided to revert back to Mavericks and no more issues on the external monitor. I wish there was a way of reverting back to Mavericks on this new Mac Mini but there isn't. I'm sure will just have to wait for a new major update to solve all the issues. Maybe next year they'll come out with a whole new OS, since Yosemite is getting a lot of neg reviews.
