All 18,000 of my photos/videos have disappeared. Please help!

I upgraded to Yosemite over the holidays. On January 3rd I downloaded 2 photos from my iPhone messages. today I opened iPhoto and these are the only 2 photos I have in my library. I repaired my hard drive and did the hold down the alt/option key on iPhoto startup to look for any other libraries with no luck. Any suggestions?

The old library might still be there, if iPhoto did not overwrite it, you are right.

But it is not visible in the Pictures folder and iPhoto does not recognize it, as stated in the first post.

It is really a pity, that kurtiscamera cannot tell us the iPhoto version, that created the library, and we still do not know, if the library used to be in the Pictures folder or on an external drive.

So, if restoring from Time Machine does not work, we will need to search for traces of the iPhoto library with Find Any File.

I was in the middle of incorrectly using Time Machine when Old Toad's screenshot arrived and helped me figure out what I was doing incorrectly. Thank you everyone! Together you allowed me to restore 129.64 Gigs of priceless memories! Thanks Luuklp for the garbage suggestion, i found about 20 photos that would have otherwise been lost forever. Leonie thanks for your tenacity and patience. LarryHN thanks for the admonition - my hard drive is backing up as we speak. And Old Toad, Thank you, thank you, thank you. The screen shot that you took the time to put together truly saved the day. Problem Solved!!!
