If you just bought it last week the most I'd do is reset the phone by holding both the home button and sleep button at the same time for 10 seconds or so until the Apple logo appears. You won't lose any data. You could also try restoring the phone but since it's brand new I'd just take it back to where you bought it and tell them it's not working properly. They'll likely just give you a new one. If you do want to restore it follow these instructions: Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

Yesterday night we bought for my wife Brand new Iphone 6s 64GB from a retail store. We used icloud to restore apps and various data from Iphone 5s. Today my wife has reported the phone is going crazy. Opening Youtube videos, replying to messages. As i was reading the previous comments i concluded that the cause could be:

- Bad cable/charger

- Screen protector

- Icloud restore

- hardware issue

- We were using 5s cable to charge the iphone 6s. The crazy stuff was happening during charging so we will use the 6s cable now on and observe if it occurs again. I doubt that it is the cause, because usually when i charge my ipad for example with the wrong cable, the screen tends to improperly react to my finger touch and sometimes misclicks the screen, but it is strange that the phone started to open different youtube videos, and respond to message by copy pasting the message that was received. That's a strange behavior and never seen before.

- Screen protector: We kept the screen protector that originally came with the box. The plan was to buy a proper screen protector in the near future and so we wanted to keep the one that came with it. Anyway, we will remove it and observe the phones behavior.

- Icloud restore: We restored using icloud, but as some reported, the issue was ongoing even after complete reset. So for now we will not reset it until it is the last resort.

- Hardware issue: Well i hope this is not the case otherwise we would be very disappointed. I mean if we are going to pay crazy money for a quality phone and then end up with hardware issue, then that makes me disappointed. I am not even sure how the retailer is going to handle the situation if we return to them with the phone. But i hope we will not get there.

Yes, it was deleting, too.

My phone was under warranty. Apple sent me "loaner" phone (I had to give a credit card deposit). I restored from cloud backup.

I mailed the problem phone back. Several weeks later, they said to keep this phone. There was never an explanation of what went wrong, even though I repeatedly asked for an explanation.

Their silence made me suspicious. Not sure what it was about, but why not explain it?

I've had the same issue for the past month. I'm going through a restore process at the moment to see if it helps with the issue.

It seems to have started happening after the upgrade to iOS 10, having to use the home button to access the phone. Personally, I think the constant pressing of the home button is effecting the mechanism of the phones touch pad. My phones 5C, so it doesn't have the finger print tech built in. I'm not sure whether the finger print phones need home button to be physically pressed, but pressing it will cause wear, most moving parts do.

I would suggest, if you don't want to go through the hassle of a full restore and you want to show it off as a party trick, Drag your apps into groups. The phantom finger only seems to press once or twice sporadically. If your apps are grouped, it give the phantom finger less chance of pressing anything important to activate it. Also make sure the apps are grouped at the top of the screen.

Unfortunately, the keyboard will sit along the bottom of the screen, portrait or landscape, so the phantom finger will inevitably start pressing keys. If you've not made your texts private (text is its favourite haunt), read them on screen. Open the phone and leave it for a short while (15 seconds) before replying.

I'll add a comment after I've restored to let you know if its corrected the issue, but i doubt it will.

I just hope the phantom finger doesn't start typing in the wrong lock code to many times as this will lock my phone and clear the data ! Then I might think about sorting a solicitor to speak to Apple.

Unfortunately, the problem has returned.

My phone is still under warranty, and Apple has already said I should get a new phone.

Really, really not happy about this.

I had gotten the new iPhone 6 last Sept. In April, I accidentally trashed it walking into the ocean with it in my pocket. That one was fine. Very discouraged with the problems with this one, and its a 6GB, which was more money. Regretting that part.

This next next one better be flawless for a year or two!

I have the same problem. It started about a month ago by the touch screen randomly freezing. Now it's completely unusable as it begins to randomly type, open apps, play music, set alarms, calls randomly, like it's possessed. The phone is up to date software- wise, and I have restarted the phone to no avail. I do not use any screen protection on the phone and its never been out of its leather case. I tried to back up the data/sync last night but I don't think it worked. I have never had this issue with any of the iPhones I have owned. Looks like it might be a problem that is in need of urgently addressing by Apple.

I ended up taking it to an authorised reseller, and they did a restore and it worked ok for a few hours - it's now doing the same thing and I have called Apple support. I have to send my iPhone to Apple 😟. During the apple support call, the phone tried to FaceTime, ended the call, called a random contact and began typing random letters of the alphabet all by itself. I'm in Australia and they said it would be about a 10 day turnaround time 😮 The lady at apple support was really nice, but I'm really annoyed to be inconvenienced for so long. It's under warranty, (thankfully) and has not been dropped or water damaged. It hasn't even got a single scratch on the darn thing.

They offered me a $39 express fix thing - but the catch was that they would withhold the full price of a new iPhone 6 on my credit card, which would be refunded once they sent the phone back. (wait…WHAT?) I'm a single mum - I don't have that kind of cash just sitting around in bank, let alone a credit card! I'm not at all happy. I don't know what kind of service Apple offers other countries, but I'm really disappointed with it here.

Please note - the apple support lady was as helpful as she could be and it is no reflection on her service.

Same problem here with my brand new iphone 6. The phone is not even a week old and random apps opening and also typing started the second day I had phone. Took it to Verizon but it behaved at the store so they would not do anything. I have to wonder if Apple plans on helping any of us with this problem or not? This is my first Apple product and I ready to go back to Samsung if there is no resolution forthcoming!

I hope someone at Apple is monitoring this forum??????
