Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Can I go back to an older OS?

I upgraded to Yosemite in the early autumn. My 2011 iMac has always had a tendency to crash (programs or whole computer) but that increased after installing Yosemite. I never upgraded to Mavericks though. I think I was using Snow Leopard before.

iMac, iOS 7.0.4

I just read what you write, you're all over the place. They are not assumptions (How do you think you got into this in the first place?)

If you came here for help that's one thing, if you came here looking for someone to commiserate with you, I am not your man,

Stop trying whatever comes into your head and try to do as you are advised instead. if you don't want to I will let you carry on as you are.

Csound you copy/pasted (why doesn't this forum have quoting???)

Near the top of that list, after the tascam item, it lists four items with wdc.driver in their names. I clicked on Support, saw the wd does indeed stand for Western Digital and I'm wondering why you are telling me to delete drivers (or what I'm assuming to be drivers because of that word in the name!) when this is my EHD that I use multiple times every day, containing all my data (or might be the other EHD which is backing up one of my husband's film projects and we keep it plugged in so Backblaze will keep it backed up; however I haven't re-plugged that one in since yesterday, so it's not that, is it). Are they not drivers, despite the name? What are they then? I'm understandably nervous about deleting things. I don't want to make my computer problems worse!

Hallo Michele,

You are in good hands, he knows what he is talking about. Let's get on with it. Follow his advice step by step. Others are also watching this and could assist if necessary.

He has helped countless others before.

Michele,

I repeat my first post (page 3):

Quote:

michele, all that is cripling your mac has been said in this thread already: but a lot of apps or remnants are still there.

I will list them again:

Akamai,

WD software,

Tascam,

ALL Safari extensions,

Director Shockwave,

Fuze and Fuze extension,

HP tocgenerator,

And last but not least:

in Finder click the GO menu, in there click GoToFolder, fill in (copy/paste): /private/etc/

in that folder you find an file called sysctl.conf delete that file (be careful in this etc folder).

After all that, restart, empty the trash, run a new etrecheck list so that we can check if all is gone completely.

Several pages further nothing has been done, then I posted this:

The Apple store is not the right place I think, when there is nothing wrong with your computer: it is the mess that you are in now. It is really easy to solve, but you are operating above your level (no critics, but reality). In one of my first posts I made a list what should be made to go off the mac. And I can explain how to in 5 minutes, to somebody who understands the instructions and has a bit of experience with installing, uninstalling and removing items with the Finder.

So in your case you are now worse than when you started. No offense meant. See it from the metalevel, as a project you have to manage without knowing much about the technical details. Discipline is needed.

Unquote.

And we are now on page seven in the thread and still nothing has happened.

My list is complete and good advice. and all is in there.

At VikingOSX: this file is caused either by a crap tool app, or an "irregular" application.

At Leopardus: the WD software installed 4 drivers, indeed they must go, but don't forget that an instruction to unexperienced readers may lead to also delete the "...wd.helper...." , which should not be deleted because it is the OSX helper file for the WiFi diag.

I am leaving this thread now. Have fun.

Hi Michele,

Have you done as he requested?

My husband points out that perhaps the Tascam and other things aren't uninstalling completely because I have other accounts -- his and my daughters' -- on my machine.

Did you actually go and get the 10.9.5 driver from Tascam? or not.

At this stage I would prefer it if iphonemichele did not follow my advice, I have no clue what state the machine is in now and will not commit to any procedures.

Over to you.

I appreciate that very much, Leopardis, and Csound too I am sure.

And I admire your persistance, especially were I have the feeling that this "project" is stranded in the sand, because the OP (7 pages of posts) has not been able to master her (understandable) frustration and has not put forward enough discipline to get the necessary things done.

Happy computing.
