iTunes opening by itself

As the title says, iTunes keeps opening itself at random times, and it's getting really annoying, is there a way to set iTunes not to open unless I want to open it?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

i don't thinks thats it. it might be that you need to force quit or quit the app. do this by clicking the iTunes icon on your dock or in finder applications with TWO FINGERS! then there is an option at the bottom that says force quit or quit. Now, everytime you log on look at the icon and if the iTunes icon has a little dot on it, it means its running in the background and you need to quit it. Let me know if it works for you.

Same problem, just starts playing randomly. El Captian 10.11.2

Tried to quit in the Dock (kwhit44), let´s see if there is any effect. A while since I updated to El Captian, must been one of the first weeks of it available. First time of problems today (hmm, perhaps another day as well), waking up my daugter at full volume.

Hmm, just realised I turned of "Arrow" on Netflix running on my Apple TV with the apple remote.

OK, got it! My Apple TV remote is the remote supplied with my old (2007) Mac Mini. We never used it to the Mac Mini, but when we misplaced the remote to the Apple TV we started using this Mac Mini remote. Just moved the Apple TV to where I have the new Mac Mini, I guess it does the same as it says on the button I pressed (Play/Pause), not only on the Apple TV, but on my new Mac Mini!

User error...

iTunes launches when you click/push the Start/Stop on the headphone, earbud controls or on the keyboard.

Not by increasing or decreasing volume, only the Start/Stop button.

When we touch the Start/Stop usually by accident and it launches iTunes.

It is very annoying.

I called Apple Care about it and found out there's no way to stop it from launching when you use the Start/Stop.

3rd party info, I'm not using it but you can try

Except that we are doing none of these things. No earbuds, start/stop, launch, touch, etc. As usual, an answer that is a non-sequitur. It launches by itself. Period. That's what it does. No human error. No human intervention.

I turned off sharing, turned off the store, unchecked anything that had to do with any computer/internet connection, turned off check for automatic updates, turned it off and rebooted.

Since doing that, and not attempting to use it, it hasn't launched by itself. So, as long as I don't use it, we're good.

No human error. No human intervention. Did you do this? Click that? accidentally touch this? No.

Just using the computer and then, an unknown force in the universe launches iTunes.

You are right that it has nothing to do with ear-buds, head-phones, infra-red links etc. It has been happening to me for some time (not just in El Capitan). I did ring Apple Support and they spent ages on it. In the end, their only solution was to rename the iTunes app. (not that helpful a suggestion).

*** This problem seems to have been around for a very long time. I imagine Apple have little incentive to sort it out.

Your post prompted me to look at my bluetooth menu for active connections. I discovered that I had a bluetooth headset in my bag that was turned on and connected. It was repeatedly causing iTunes to launch and play the last bit of media with which I had used the headset. Turning the headset off resolved the problem. Thanks much for your insight.

I have bluetooth off I use wired keyboards and Mouse.

I have an apple Remote but it is not paired to the iMac.

I have even removed the iTunes log in helper from my user account.

I'm stumped. One thing I have is network drives mounted on my desktop. Those drives have iTunes running.

Last night every computer was put to sleep. There it is in the morning.

I give up and quit iTunes every time I use my computer.
