Suddenly can't get new Yahoo! mail on my mac.

I can get gmail, and can get Yahoo! mail using other my other apple devices (through same internet service). Also able to log into webmail with no issues. Didn't change any settings since yesterday (the last time I was able to receive new Yahoo! mail on my mac). Seems like a problem specific to the mac itself, since it's not an issue with the internet, server, or account credentials.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

This afternoon, tried to add Yahoo again to Apple Mail. Success. Must use the second app password or whatever it is called, but at least Yahoo has opened up their servers again. Yesterday I could not connect to Yahoo mail servers to add them in Apple Mail. Today they are back open to access from Apple Mail. And people wonder if Yahoo is worth investing in. Their service isn't reliable.

I have had this happen several times in the last month. It seems to come up after aIdelete a bunch of messages on my iPad . All of a sudden I can't download emails on any of my devices.

I read yahoo mail from several different macs (home and 2 offices) using both Apple mail and Outlook mail. I see a message that I have X messages but nothing gets loaded. I do get the messages on my iPhone, and I can access the messages through safari by going to mail.yahoo.com but can't see the messages on the iPad or mac. Then after a day or so everything starts working again.

I am having the same problem as well. I happened a few weeks ago ... seemed to resolve by itself and now happening again.

I tested it with other email clients on the same Mac and it shows the same problem ... no inbox, but spam, sent, etc .. all sync fine.

The really frustrating thing is that I tested with Windows, on the same Mac, and it worked fine with the Thunderbird mail client.

This seems to be some strange problem with how IMAP works on OS X ... I cannot imagine why else it would appear on different email clients, but not on Windows on the same machine.

To use Yahoo Mail w Apple Mail, you cannot use your Yahoo Account Password. You must get Yahoo to generate a SPECIFIC password for your Apple Mail App.

Get the Yahoo generated SPECIFIC password to use in Apple Mail.

In Apple Mail, add Yahoo. Type your FULL EMAIL ADDRESS and insert the SPECIFIC password. DO NOT type only your Yahoo user name.

I'm here to tell you that Apple Mail is one WACKY CRAZY app. It isn't easy to set up if you do it wrong. It is UNFORGIVING.

Hi ... not sure what this specific password is or how you set it up, but I was able to get my Apple Mail working with PostBox, so that's what I am sticking with for now.

My Apple Mail was working for years with my regular password, so not sure I understand what changed. If anyone can explain how to get that set up I would appreciate it. Thanks very much.

I appreciate the effort, but it doesn't make sense that a problem with authentication would work sometimes and not other times. I have switched to using MS Outlook rather than Apple Mail. It does fail most mornings when it tries to download my messages, but if I click "No" when it asks if I want to re-enter my authentication information, it goes ahead and downloads all of the messages correctly.

Update:

For some unknown reason my Mac mail started working again. I have no clue if this had anything to do with it (Probably not), but the following is what I did prior to it coming back.

Backed up to time machine.

Downloaded PostBox as Savidon recommended.

Was working on importing missing emails from my sent box in Mac mail to my desktop to bring over to PostBox and all of the sudden I see a notificaion from Mac mail that I received a new message?

I lost a bunch of my sent messages that were not on yahoo but were in Mac (Had lost them previously but recovered them from an old saved file).

This is messed up...

Good luck to everyone on this issue.

Even several weeks ago my mac mail worked great wt yahoo mail. I 'never' had Yahoo to generate a SPECIFIC password for your Apple Mail App, so I don't understand what you mean. Shortly before, having these mail problems, I also occasionally would get a message saying I have trouble connecting to Wi Fi related to my yahoo mail, and please open system preferences to fix the issue. Unfortunately there is nothing in system preferences to solve the problem. I am guesing that these two events are related, but haven't any idea. If they are, well I don't expect apple to fix them any time soon. There were pages upon pages of complaints, on problems wt Time Machine, and they only finally provided an update, and fixed them. I suppose that in the meantime I can check my mail on yahoos website, but it kind of defeats the purpose of even having a mac mail program.

Suddenly can't get new Yahoo! mail on my mac.
