Suddenly can't get new Yahoo! mail on my mac.

I can get gmail, and can get Yahoo! mail using other my other apple devices (through same internet service). Also able to log into webmail with no issues. Didn't change any settings since yesterday (the last time I was able to receive new Yahoo! mail on my mac). Seems like a problem specific to the mac itself, since it's not an issue with the internet, server, or account credentials.

Mac mail also quite suddenly doesn't seem to work, when receiving any mail. I will successfully send out a mail in mac mail to both my yahoo accounts & my mac mail accounts. Neither mail will then arrive in my mac mail account. The mail arrives in my yahoo account, so there is probably something wrong wt my incoming mail server in mac mail. The weird thing is I was receiving my mail fine yesterday, and changed absolutely nothing in my account settings. Any ideas out there?

To repeat, Yahoo has changed. Yahoo must generate an Apple Mail Password for you. This is not your Yahoo Account password. You do this in your account/privacy settings, but Yahoo can only generate the password, you must request it. Search Google for the Yahoo App Specific Password at Yahoo if you can't find it.

Your WiFi problems were at one time a Yosemite issue, however, I think it has become a past issue. In fact I never experienced WiFi issues since Mavericks and Yosemite. Others did, but I haven't. Maybe you need to reinstall Yosemite a couple of times to get it installed correctly. But it is your issue and not so much an issue anymore at Apple.

I suggest as you seem so befuddled w your computer that you buy a repair issue (via phone call to Apple Support). Bought one for $26 maybe its more now, but again you may enjoy more bellyaching, than getting your issues fixed.

How my email works:

I use IMAP Servers to view incoming mail.

I use SMTP Servers to send out mail.

REFUSE Apple Mail Auto-Configure.

Auto-configure email continues to be broken in Yosemite.

Manually enter both IMAP and SMTP settings.

First go to: "WWW.Apple Email Setup" for

my correct IMAP and SMTP server settings.

Remember deleting and re-adding my Apple Mail email accounts,

ONLY DELETES IMAP SERVERS. I must delete and re-enter

SMTP server settings MANUALLY because Yosemite

auto-configure does not work correctly.

I only need one SMTP server to send mail from ALL my email

accounts. For all devices, use only one SMTP Server. For best emailing

experience, specify, GOOGLE as the DEFAULT SMTP Server

Do all the above for EACH DEVICE I own:

iMac, iPhone, iPad Air and Mac Book.

I had the exact same issue Greenmind. I don't have a good answer for you other than for a lot of people it seems to mysteriously fix on it's own. I'm thinking it's maybe a glitch on yahoo's end. I did generate an app password like Blackxacto suggested but it didn't start working again until about 12 hours later so I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. Couldn't hurt to try.

I would highly recommend that you back up your Mac mail if it's not perfectly in sync with your Mac mail. I lost some emails that were not on the server when it started working again.

Good luck.

I didn't think these ideas (or the ones about setting up Yahoo application specific passwords) were relevant because the problem is intermittent, but I am a good sport and went through the process of deleting all my email configurations, setting up yahoo application-specific passwords, deleted all email accounts off of my Mac and out of outlook, entered my new yahoo-specific password. I even went ahead and set up SMTP to go through a separate POP server - again, I don't think that is the problem because the errors happen when downloading new messages, not sending. Like I said, I'm a good sport. It worked for about an hour and then I got the error when Outlook tried to connect to Yahoo.

I have not had this problem on my iPhone so I am reluctant to blame Yahoo alone. It seems like Apple and Yahoo need to figure out how to get MacOS and Yahoo to play nice like they used to and the way iOS still does.

For the record, I am on OSX 10.9.5 on both my home mac and my work mac. I guess if someone could verify that this is a known problem that is fixed in 10.10 I might consider opening that can of worms, but I prefer to let others spend time finding Apple's bugs for at least 6 months.

I also tried using the specific password app, and it sent a text to my cell phone. I went through all of the verification, and changed my password on my mac to the new one the program designated, and it suddenly worked! Also only for a couple of hours. So I removed the app, predesignated my mail password, and mac mail now works again wt yahoo. I expect it to fail again, but I have no idea. BTW, upgrading to Yosemite may help you, but then again it may not. I'm currently using Yosemite, and have had intermittant problems wt mail going back to Maverick days.

As of today, February 19th, 2015 I cannot receive yahoo email in the Mail program on my MacBook Pro OSX 10.9.4

This has been happening for 24 hours now. I deleted the account on my mac, rebuilt the inbox and I am still not getting my yahoo mail.

Gmail works fine, comcast works fine, iCloud works fine, and my personal website email account works fine.

So it's obviously a Yahoo problem but I'm hoping another mac user has found a way to resolve this issue on their own.

If so, please let me know what you did!

Thanks 🙂

Summer, Now I can now get yahoo mail fine, and my comcast account keeps going in and out. I just got off the phone wt Comcast, and all of my settings are good. When I used the comcast server, mail going to my comcast account won't work. I was sending test messages to myself, and kept getting explanation marks inside triangles. So tried using using my yahoo server to send my Comcast mail using my Yahoo server. I know that this doesn't make any sense, but thats what my Mac kept suggesting. It worked! I am really thinking this is a problem on macs side.

Safari 7.1.3, IOS 10.9.5

When my supposed Mail comes up, it actually shows the Desktop. I can do spotlight search and bring up old mail but there is no way to even get to the Yahoo Inbox screen.

I'm going to wait, no rebuilding, deleting, new account, etc., because I went through email problem with iPad 2 after "upgrading" to IOS 8 and after. Many people did, and they tried multiple ways to fix. But the majority of us simply had to wait until somehow Apple and Yahoo decided to work together in new IOS version and miraculously the email suddenly reappeared at different times for different users. This was Dec 2014--Jan 2015. During that time I could get my email via old Windows 7 just fine, and also through the Yahoo email app, but not on iPad.

Apple does not care that users are having problems like this--they never acknowledged this problem with IOS 8, instead just threw more "upgrades" at us which caused different problems. My iPad 2 Safari is still unstable--works, doesn't work; freezes; reloads at critical times; I do hard restart at least twice daily to get it to perform for a while.

Best of luck to all,

IIf you will either buy Apple Care annually, or buy a one incident ticket with Apple Support for around $25, the Apple Techs will guide you patiently through correctly setting up your Mac.

OR you can read the previous posts in this thread to fix your situation.

OR you might prefer to gripe and moan and blame others for your own inept computer use. If you don't want to understand a computer, just watch tv. You just turn a tv on and watch. Period.

My settings are correct, I had Comcast go through my Comcast settings wt me, and also checked the mail settings at https://www.apple.com/support/mail-settings-lookup/. That was simply a formality, because my mail program worked great, before the Yosemite 'upgrade'. I have three inboxes, Yahoo, Comcast, & Yahoo. Occasionally all three mailboxes function. There working now, but out of out of blue my Comcast, or my Yahoo mailboxes fail unexpectedly.

greenmindYahoo mail was working fine on my macBook pro in my Apple Mail app... just like my gmail, comcast, and iCloud accounts were working.

I changed absolutely nothing.

Then YAHOO stopped getting new mail on my macbook pro, though my yahoo mail continued coming into yahoo.com (obviously) as well as my iPhone.

The other emails I mentioned above continue(d) working just fine so I am not understanding how this can be an apple issue... though I wouldn't be surprised if it is somehow.

I'd simply like a solution to the problem.

blackxactoI do have apple care and will call to ask them what is going on. I was just looking for a known solution by users as oftentimes I am teaching apple techs what to do.

"OR you can read the previous posts in this thread to fix your situation."

I did what others suggested to no avail or I wouldn't be asking for further help.

"OR you might prefer to gripe and moan and blame others for your own inept computer use. If you don't want to understand a computer, just watch tv. You just turn a tv on and watch. Period."

You might stick to only offering positive support or perhaps it would be better for all if you stayed off the computer and watched tv, which is likely where you are getting your personality flaws from. I killed my TV over 20 years ago.

FYI, I have 30 years tech experience. With millions of people saying their mac mail is not working, I doubt this issue is user specific.

blackxacto, I hope you have a better, less critical "support" attitude next you decide to offer your "help".

Thanks all for your kindness and support! 🙂

I just ran into a similar issue. On Feb 24th, my Yahoo Inbox stopped synchronizing in Outlook for Mac. All other Yahoo email folders (sent, draft, custom, etc.) synch just fine. I can send Y! email, but nothing comes into the inbox. Emails show up in Mac Mail, Outlook for PC, Yahoo webmail, but NOT in Outlook for Mac. I spent hour on the phone with MS support, but it all points to Yahoo issue. All other email accounts in Outlook for Mac are fine (gmail, exchange, etc.).

Looking at this thread and the timing, it almost looks like Yahoo is doing some kind of rolling update that breaks and then fixes the issue. I'm just waiting for my issue to fix itself...it has now been 4 days. How long did this self-correct take most everyone else?

Suddenly can't get new Yahoo! mail on my mac.
