Hi 😕

You could also just install Yosemite over itself. That alone may fix the problem. This leaves everything on the drive as is, other than replacing all of the system files with fresh copies. So your third party software and all of your documents, email and such will still be on the drive, assuming nothing happens that isn't supposed to. But that's what backups are for.

I really appreciate all the time and trouble you have taken to try and get me 'up and running' properly, Kurt. Thanks. 🙂

In general terms, this machine appears to be working as well as it ever has done, so I'm not going to tear my hair out!

Perhaps I'll take a look at other threads where folk have completely flattened their machines before loading Yosemite.

IIRC, I still had a 'Base OS X' area on my hard drive when I reinstalled from my Time Machine.

You need to be a level 3 user before you can upload and use your own avatar. That requires 500 or more points accumulated through answering questions here, and then being awarded Solved or Helpful stars by the person who started the topic. You get 10 points for a Solved, and 5 for a Helpful.

Like mine, your account shows the email as private. I have mine set that way on purpose. I do like helping people where I can, but I also want some control over that. To me, that means I'll try to solve issues I know the answer to (or have a pretty good idea), and will gladly respond to posts directed to me while I'm logged into the forums. But running a business out of the home doesn't afford me the time to respond to multiple emails from users here throughout the day.

Per the topic you linked to, I also have email notifications from these forums off. It comes back to the same reason as above. When I login here, I can easily see what topics have been responded to, so there's no need for an email to prompt me. I don't need to instantly know a person has added a new post to a topic I'm part of. That is, I'll get to it the next time I login.

Hi Kurt 🙂

Thanks for replying with more helpful information - I now understand about the avatar and appreciate confirmation that my email address is not showing. I also understand you not wanting to be flooded with emails from this particular source!

I have asked BT to investigate the 'problem' of the blue links not working. I will let you know what BT say in due course.

Regards

David B.
