could not activate cellular data network

Even though my iPhone 5c shows my provider and 3G - the phone is not connected to cellular data. When opening mail for example I get the popup msg: "Could not activate cellular data network - You are not subscribed to a cellular data service.

A few more details. This problem came up when I switched back from another SIM when travelling abroad. A clean restore solves the problem, restoring from a backup does not. What can I do to solve this while restoring from a backup?

Cellular data is on.

Hi. Good point. The provider is a German prepaid provider (virtual operator) called "blau.de". The Profile was for "internet.eplus.de". Eplus is the mobile network operator.

Given the fact they are not listed as a supported provider in this listing, Wireless carrier support and features for iPhone - Apple Support, I'm guessing they do this since the phone does not have a carrier file for them. Something to watch when using what we call in the US a MVNO, which is a mobile operator selling cheap minutes while they lease the usage of a major provider's towers. Good luck with your phone.
