White screen with a crossed out circle which flickers to the Apple logo sometimes, but won't open. What can I do to open it?

Help!! I'm in Belize (not a good place to be with an Apple, as international as you may claim to be!) and my computer decided to "quit" thusly:

White screen with a crossed out circle which flickers to the Apple logo sometimes, but won't open. What can I do to open it? (I do have my recently backed up data with me, but no loading discs for my computer.

Hoping there is a solution,

I clicked "OK", and now shows below: What now? (I didn't do any down loading of anything, in other words. Only clicked on "OK" )

You need to quit that & try installing.

I suspect you will need to come back & try erasing that disk, but see if the installer is OK with the disk as it is.

Quit like any other app. From the menu. That takes you back to the options where you chose install.

or under "disk utility" on the top bar, click on "quit" ?

Yes.

This will take an awful long time like this, we have covered a lot of this. The installer will warn you before rebooting so please try to use your own judgement & post when you are stuck
