White screen with a crossed out circle which flickers to the Apple logo sometimes, but won't open. What can I do to open it?

Help!! I'm in Belize (not a good place to be with an Apple, as international as you may claim to be!) and my computer decided to "quit" thusly:

White screen with a crossed out circle which flickers to the Apple logo sometimes, but won't open. What can I do to open it? (I do have my recently backed up data with me, but no loading discs for my computer.

Hoping there is a solution,

reply to your last sentence:

I don't expect you to. I haven't expected you to. Sorry if you hear a big alarm when someone replies to you. Turn the sound off when it is after hours!

I'm sure you are very busy with all sorts of stuff including a few more idiots like me.

What time zone are you in, out of curiosity? ( I am in central.)

I 'm a dumbie with computers. That's obvious.

Apples are so user friendly, until they break down and one is not in some BIG North American city.

I sincerely do not want to be without my MacBook Pro for four months. BTL is not the most reliable of internet providers. Until about 4 hr from now I am not going to do any more that might require a long download time (if there is any hope of that).

Thank you VERY much for your help so far. I hope you will continue with my case.

See you in about 2,226 hours 🙂

That figure should drop, but if it doesn't alter we may have to reboot & start over, sometimes recovery mode will drop the internet connection, meaning the download fails. Give it about an hour or so to change.

As the installer progresses you should eventually get to a prompt to migrate data from another Mac or from a backup.

This is when you plugin the backup disk & try selecting that disk.

If the backup disk is not offered as an option you will have to skip it & use LaCie's own tools later.

In that case you have to make your user account when the Mac reboots, then get LaCie's software to move the data back.

…my fingers are crossed.
