Windows 10 is not supported. It doesn't exist as a real product yet. Contact Microsoft.

Try following the instructions at turingtest2'sTroubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates

Each item he discusses is a separate issue. You may have to work thorough several before you find the problem. This seems to be a problem or problems with iTunes 12 and Windows (not just Windows 10) as well as with iTunes and some older hardware/firmware. It is presenting itself on different versions of Windows as well as on different Apple device types. Hopefully the next release of iTunes will see it sorted.

I suspect that the fact that Microsoft have been pushing frequent updates for Windows 10 may at least be a contributing factor. Like many others, I've had no problems with iTunes since upgrading to Windows 10 (indeed, iTunes has been one the least problematic apps - several of the built-in Windows apps, including Mail and Schedule - have been causing more problems).

From reading through other reports here, it is definitely advisable before upgrading to Windows 10, to:

  • backup your iTunes library (which should go without saying, as you should backup all data before applying a major OS update)
  • deauthorize your Apple ID in iTunes - there seem to be cases where iTunes loses its authorization information during the upgrade, giving some users with reauthorization issues if their count of authorized devices is already maximized at 5.

I have tried everything short of summoning Wozniack WIzard powers to get ITunes installed on my upgrader Windows 10 machine. I have tried all of the suggestions to completely remove the ITunes install and re-install. I have removed registry entries for all ITunes, but the current version of ITunes tells me that the old version or new version is still there. Will Apple release another ITunes version that addresses this? I'm sure I'm not the only one out there.
