Hello,

I have a 5S and I'm pretty tech saavy. This is not my first iPhone however it is my first one to constantly fluctuate with space going from 3gb available to 0 bytes every other day. Nobody on the internet seems to know why this keeps happening. I only have about 1.2 gigs of photos and 1.3 in music and apps and all are significantly less. Even when I add the apps in Usage all together, it does not equal 12.1 GB (phone's capacity). Does anyone have a final resolution to this?

FYI, I am aware of the newest software update and plan to do it later today. Anything else?

MOoofy's fix (temporary or not) worked for me (so far). He might have a point with that cache bug. I don't personally know if Apple has or has not even looked into it.

gply genius bar techs informed me that the phone needs to be restored as a new phone to solve the problem and a backup will bring the same problem along.

i'm happy to hear it worked for you. it is the quickest solution to this issue that i have found.

to the other person who asked how i know that my family's iphone databases arent corrupted, we had these same issues on our iphone 5S's, and our iPhone 6 Pluses were set up as new and we are still having the same issues.

i will be vindicated at some point, it's ok, i don't mind the wait

If your iPhone 6 Pluses were actually set up as new, then there's no caching at all. It's not synced with or connected to anything, other than your wireless carrier account. An iOS device that is set up as new has nothing on it other than the native iOS. No user data, no iTunes match, nothing. So, if your problem remained on the 'as new' device, then it has absolutely nothing to do with iTunes Match, and therefore has nothing to do with 'media caching'.

Something's not adding up here. But that's okay. I don't mind waiting while you figure it out.

you're not taking into account that my match database may be corrupted on Apple's end, not on mine. which is why the problem is on both our phones (we use the same itunes account). so, new device is clean but when you hook it into the existing itunes match account, the problems start.

Your iTunes Match database on Apple's side can't be corrupted. It is a simple list of content, not the actual content itself.

It's like your grocery store shopping list. You may end up with spoiled tomatoes in your basket, but the list itself isn't spoiled.

If you are actively syncing data to the device, then you are not using it as a 'new' device.

You are confusing a coincidental occurrence with a causality effect.

I think I may have worked out why my iPhone 5s space steadily keeps depleting to 0 over time (until I start getting the ‘Storage Almost Full’ messages). Everyone’s problems and solutions to Apple issues are so individualistic though, so I’m not sure whether my explanation will be relevant for everyone. I first tried everything listed in these kind of threads, such as deleting WhatsApp data, to logging out and back into iTunes account, etc. Nothing worked.

On your iPhone If you go on ‘Settings’ and then on ‘App and iTunes Store’ you will find a section called ‘Automatic Downloads’ with options for Music, Apps, Books and Updates. If you switch these on, the iPhone will sync purchases made from these categories. I figured that these had been interfering with the space on my iPhone so I switched them all off (Note also that I have never used iCloud and have always been logged out of it, so I do not believe that is affecting things).
Here is the strange thing – even when these options were switched off, the iPhone still seemed to register that I had made purchases (in my case, music purchases). I know this because every time I purchased music on my iTunes PC, the iPhone Music app would start showing a ‘Purchased’ playlist. I regularly have always deleted this ‘Purchased’ playlist, so I know that it has only appeared when purchases have been made on my iTunes account (even though I am specifically requesting that they not be synced to the iPhone itself. I also have Apple Music switched off, so I know it is not that). Once the ‘Purchased’ playlist is deleted it stays deleted, until I buy more music on my iTunes account. Although the music I purchase does not appear on the iPhone itself, I think there is some sort of glitch happening whereby the iPhone space depletes according to new purchases made. I think this would also be the case for buying and updating Apps, Books, etc. It’s almost like a ‘ghost’ imprint of your iTunes activity affecting the storage capacity of the iPhone.

Thus the only way I have been able to stop my space size from shrinking is to make sure I do not make any new purchases on my iTunes account, or update any apps. Since doing this, the space on the phone has remained consistent and I haven’t had any ‘Storage Almost Full’ messages for many months. It’s obviously not very convenient, but it’s the best solution I have found so far.

Hi Guys,

I know 3 people that is experiencing the same issue along side me.

Basically I deleted and made available 600mb, next morning its back to 0mb.

Then I tried what that fella said about logging out of iTunes and icloud .. and it worked gave me back about 1.7gb!

But since then its not working. only worked once. But now I know what the leak is caused. If I make another 400mb free on my phone by deleting stuff.. it will remain on my phone providing I have signed out of icloud and iTunes/appstore.

As soon as I log in to the above two my leak will start again, but if you remain logged out you will keep the same forever.

Come on APPLE fix this thing, so many people are having this issue, My collegue has a Iphone 6 plus! its hardly old and still having this issue!!
