I was experiencing this exact problem and solved it by backing up my main hard drive and then using a thumb drive to install an older version of Yosemite (10.10) which I found online. A little bit of a pain since I then had to reinstall all of my programs, but now I'm back to video editing at full speed.

Hopefully Apple fixes this software issue soon, but until then I will not be updating.

Unfortunately Apple doesn't let you easily go back to an older version of the operating system (including Mavericks) once you've installed Yosemite. Here's a quote from a Mac World article about reverting to Mavericks:

"First of all a couple of things you can’t do. You can’t just open the App Store and install Mac OS X Mavericks, even if you have previously downloaded Mavericks and have the file in your Purchased History. Attempting to do this simply brings up the warning that you can’t install an older version of Mac OS X over a newer one. Similarly you can’t boot into Recovery Mode (by holding down Alt during startup and selecting Recovery Disk) and reinstall Mac OS X. If you try to do this you’ll simply end up downloading the latest version of Mac OS X (Yosemite) and re-installing that."

Clone

And keep on sparse disk image / partitions / whatever suits you - and make a clone of the system anytime you are about to install anything whether 10.10.2 or 10.10 - and might want to go for a clean install so you would clone, erase, install, run Setup Assistant.

And for goodness sake, make one of those flash type installers, save the OS X installer packages and keep them around so you always have a local copy - is all you need! But try it out to make sure it works. And again, need not be a USB flash drive, can be any bootable storage volume (I recommend 16GB rather than smaller).

You will never be stuck or without a means to downgrade your OS or go back to an earlier copy or version or release point.

Here is a similar tip to the excellent MacWorld article:

What I do (still using Yosemite) is to eject the drives, then put them to sleep and when needed wake them up again for backup or other things. Don't shut them down. You can shutdown your mac. When it is started up again, the drives will appear on the desktop again, ready for work or just put them to sleep again if they are not needed for the day. So for LaCie drives that means a one second push on the blue button for sleep. Don't push that button for 4 seconds to shut it down.
