It is not a battery calibration or failing battery problem at all. I have already recalibrated my battery. I have fast battery drain and jumping battery percentage the same as the others. I have an iPhone 5 on the latest software. My phone shuts down at anywhere between 15 and 1 % and comes back online instantly I plug it in and goes instantly to anywhere between 5 and 25%.

I have also taken the battery to Apple genius to get it replaced Intending to buy a new one. They tested the battery. It came back as in good health. Not failing at all. The assistant told me he could not sell me a battery (unless authorised by his manager) as there was nothing wrong with mine, even though I had explained my problems with the phone. He had no answers to give. Other than buy an upgrade.

So if it's not the battery. That leaves the phone hardware which was also tested at the store.

The only remaining problem would be the software. And they are not admitting to that .....

and before anyone says anything about chargers, I am using my original cable and apple plug oh and I have done a full wipe and reinstall of the iOS, reinstalled freshly downloaded apps, tried running the phone with no apps, turned off everything going etc etc etc

This is a pretty radical step, but try logging out of iCloud completely on your phone. Doing that solved a lot of battery issues for me. Just do it for a day as a test to see if it helps. Go to Setting > iCloud, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap on Sign Out of iCloud. You will lose your back up and Find My Phone while signed out, but it will be a good test to see what happens. As I said, try it for a day and see if it helps. If not, you can always log back in.

I refuse to upgrade from ios 7.1.1 since 2 years ago and last week I bought LTE plan from my cell provider. ios 7.1.1 did not have 2G, 3G, LTE option like ios 8.4 so I decided to upgrade it to ios 8.4 which I very much regret it later. ios 8.4 slows my 5s and makes the battery life really short plus the battery indicator jumps. I try to reset it from reset all setting and reset network several times but it did not work. Finally I try to hard reset it by pressing the home button and on/off button together for 10 seconds until the apple logo appear several times and also sign out from icloud. It seems to solve the battery life and battery jumping indicator problems.

On point! My battery was draining crazily for no apparent reason, shuts off at around 20%, and also the displayed battery percentage jumps up upon plugging my iphone to a computer. I noted that this problem started when I was travelling on a different SIM card overseas.

Following Gator5000e's advice, I signed out of iCloud completely and voila! Battery life is sustained, and doesn't "jump" like before. Such a simple but overlooked solution! Thanks Gator5000e. 🙂

So you opened your phone, which voids Apple's support policy and means that Apple will not longer help you with the phone. If you had taken it to Apple or an Apple authorized service center they would first have test it, to see if the problem was the battery, hardware, or software, and would have taken the appropriate corrective action. Because you assumed the problem was the battery, without doing any diagnosis, you appear to have destroyed your phone. We really can't help with a phone that has undergone self-repair.

You can wait until the end of the world comes, and you will still have the problem, because it has nothing to do with the version of iOS. Either you need to recalibrate your battery gauge, or your battery is failing.

To recalibrate your battery gauge:

  • Run the battery all the way down until the device shuts off. If it shuts off above 1% charge it for a couple of minutes, then disconnect and continue running it down. Repeat until it gets to 1% before shutting off.
  • Once it has shut off and will not turn on connect it to the wall adapter and charge until it reaches 100% without using it.

If recalibrating does not fix the problem you almost certainly have a failing battery.

I read almost all the posts on here and everyone thinks it's an actual iOS issue... Well I was having the same problem for the last 3 months and came here yesterday to ready up on how I could possibly fix this problem. As I read this thread all I could see was people blaming the operating system for this issue. Well I didn't think it was an iOS issue cause I have updated my iOS 3 times in the last 3 months or so and still have this battery issue. So I read this thread reply and did what this gentleman had said to do and low and behold, It fixed my problem. I want to thank you Lawrence as this problem was driving me crazy and you helped me solve my problem
