8.1.3 update killed my wifi

Ok, my iPhone 4S worked fine on 8.1.2. After today's update to 8.1.3, my wifi is no longer working. The wifi button under setting is grayed out and disabled!!!

I have done a complete restore from iTunes and set it up as a new iPhone - wifi disabled and grayed out.

Restored from my backup - same thing, wifi disabled and button grayed out.

So now I have a iPhone 4S with no wifi.

Apple OS updates really ***** these days.

Anyone has the same experience with the 8.1.3 update on an iPhone 4S? Suggestions on how to fix it?

iPhone 4S, iOS 8.1.3

I see you do work for Apple.

I am not representing any company. I use any product that works for me.

I think no brain to think if something works with iOS7 and than upgrade to iOS8 and stops working. Oooo Yes its third party problem not Apple.

That's Apples excuse always (third party issue) that's why I see that you work for Apple.

Keep working my friend as I said they need people like you always.

You care, because you are keep replying my messages.

Cheers

No, I don't. Apple representatives do not post on these forums. If you had read the Terms of Use, you'd know that.

I work for a company that utilizes a lot of tech, including Apple devices and Windows devices. And my job is to keep it up and running. And I spend a lot more time working on the non-Apple products.

You said 'office voice mail', but you don't represent a company... what? Are you using a work-related account or not?

You obviously have a very, very limited understand of how hardware and software works. If iOS 8 was designed to work exactly like iOS 7... then why did Apple even bother developing it? It is clearly a different software. And that means related hardware and firmware needs to be updated to remain compatible.

If you knew even the most basic tenets of technology, you would know this. Since you're both ignorant and also unwilling to learn, I think we're done.

I did care about helping you understand (I never cared about what product you used). But know, since you're unwilling to learn anything, I think we're done.

Goodbye.

As one of the comments stated here you need to reflow the chip... well with heat. I've tried to do the hairblower trick and i made my wifi work for a few minutes turned it on and off simultaneously to test it... and it went out again. But I didnt give up. I did it a second time and this time I just left it on and IT WORKED for 4 months and is still working up until now. Well it is a great fix with some trials and errors and a bit of the risk. Well if you want to fix things sometimes you just have to risk.

Finally, I turn on the airplane mode, then do a phone reset (home + sleep button for 10secs). Upon rebooting, I turned off airplane mode and the wifi button is enabled again. Just like that.

I hope this can help others who have experienced the same issue.

Thanks we got the same problem on a i Phone 6 now i is connecting again

(resetting network did not help)

If you read my original post, I did reset network settings, reset the iphone, restore a pristine 8.1.3 from itunes, even do the so call 'reflow' the chip with no results at first. Then the airplane mode on/reset phone/off make the wifi active again.

I don't know the internal of how these phone works, but my kids play games on it and heat it up crazy without an issue for years. An update is going to heat up the phone so bad that it burnt out the wifi? It is just a little hard to believe.

Anyway, I am just posting my experience, probably not going to work for everyone, but hopefully will help some.

Believe what you want. But that is the primary cause of this issue when restoring it as new doesn't work.

The line of the code cannot cause the hardware to stop working. The iOS is not written to cause this problem.
