Hi, is it legal then that companies sell iPhones ASIS? I got my phone from a very legal repair company, well known in France. They keep on telling me that I should check with Apple, and Apple tells me I should check with the company. Who changed the "bootrom" (maybe it's not the right word) in order to have this date of production/date of purchase 1st April 1978? Is it Apple who put this kind of phones on the market, or a another company is able to change this those internal informations?? This is something I still do not understand, and no one has been able to tell me so far. If someone from Apple could answer, it would be nice. It is very hard on internet to find other people with this very same problem. Thanks again.

More than likely this "legal repair company" is the one that refurbished the device, not Apple. What they do to refurbish the device is their issue. If you do not purchase a phone from Apple or an Authorized Reseller, then you run the risk of anything. The refurbish probably contains salvaged or 3rd party parts, since Apple does not sell OEM parts. The only way that Apple can warranty devices is if they are the ones that refurbish them. I'm guessing here, but the repair company is the one that makes this an As Is device, since Apple will not warranty it.

As far as Apple answering here, that is not going to happen. This is a user to user support forum, and Apple does not participate here.

I had a suspicion that a device (ipad) sold to me as new was actually used so I went to one of the Apple stores to check. They told me that my device had an original sold date of 1978 which means that it was stolen. However the company\seller got the item is questionable, as it was not originally purchased from Apple and thus Apple will not cover it with any warranty or Apple care coverages.
