Battery not charging, macbook white(2006)

Hello,

My battery is not charging, it is draining very fast. I've removed the keyboard and the monitor but left the logic board and everything else intact, i soldered a external button to the logic board where there is PWR BTN written on it. Can i reset the SMC using this button or do i have to put back the original keyboard?

Hi. It's very rare that an SMC chip goes bad. if it did you would be having other problems as well, including boot problems. I don't know the exact circuit route on the logic board. Any brake down in that path can stop it from charging. You have mag safe power cord to dc in board to logic board to the internal battery cable to the battery.http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS1713
