Q: Text Message Forwarding confirm code won't show up in Mac

I'm trying to setup Text Message Forwarding between my iPhone 6 and MBP (mid 2011). Both Mac and iPhone are in the same network and using same iCloud account, but when I try to enable it on the iPhone it asks me to enter a code that's shown on the Mac, but nothing shown there. I've read many threads here and over the the internet, no chance :(. Should my number appear in the Mac's iMessage app? it only shows my emails registered to send/receive iMessages.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10), iPhone 6. iPod Nano 2nd Generation

    Hi maysamsh,

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with the Continuity SMS function. If you are having issues setting up this feature, you may want to double check that you are following the process outlined in this article (apologies if you have already done so):

To use Continuity for SMS and MMS with your iPhone and your Mac, iPad or iPod touch

    • Your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch need to use iOS 8.1, and your Mac needs to use OS X Yosemite.
    • Sign in to iMessage on your iPhone, your other iOS devices, and your Mac using the same Apple ID.
    • On your iPhone:
      1. Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > You Can Be Reached By, and add a check to both your phone number and email address.
      2. Go to Messages > Text Message Forwarding, and enable the device(s) you would like to forward messages to.
    • Your Mac, iPad, or iPod touch will display a code. Enter this code on your iPhone to verify the SMS feature.

Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support

If you continue to have setup issues, you may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

    Regards,

    - Brenden

Hey Brenden, I'm having the same issue but with my iPad. the iPad isn't displaying the code that the iPhone is requesting. This was working for me before until February 12. This is when all of my text messages stop arriving on my iPad.

I've tried signing out and back in from both iCloud and iMessage on both of my devices but nothing seems to work. I also tried adding my iMac with all the specifications and the code didn't show up either.

iPhone 6, iPad Mini both running iOS 8.1.3 , and iMac running Yosemite, meet all the requirements.

Its a pretty easy fix, turn off iMessage on your ipad then send the request via iPhone And then open up messages on you tablet. It will give you a Login box, login into you apple account and it's done.

No, doesn't work for me. On iPad or OSX. No dice even after disabling, rebooting and reenabling everything. Microsoft-level BS. Thanks though!

Have had the same problem. All the messages with the provided code numbers will appear as pop up screens on each device & not as texts in iMessage. Steps are:

    1. Power off all devices and then restart

    2. Using iPhone, turn OFF iMessage in Settings/Messages (this is an important step)

    3. Go to Settings/General/Reset & then press Reset Network Settings. (this will unfortunately also clear the passwords for any WiFi connections) s

    4. Reinput passwords for WiFi connections in Settings/WiFi

    5. Turn iMessage ON in Settings/Messages

    6. Press Text Message Forwarding just below  this (may take a few seconds to appear after turning iMessages on)

    7. Slide button on for one or all preferred devices - this will generate a opp up message on that device, enter the 6 digit code, and press ALLOW

    8. Device should be connected, shown by a green slide bar. If not power down the relevant device (not the iPhone) and repeat steps.

Worked for me without a problem. Turning OFF iMessage before resetting Network Settings is the key step.

    Good luck.

One last bit of business is to make sure your iCloud account is active in iMessages (on your computer).  For some reason mine was turned off.  Every time I reset my PRAM it turns off "Find My iPhone" on my computer.  Go figure.

This worked for me too! Even though I absolutely turned iMessage off in step 2, it was already on when I got to step 6 so I was afraid I was going to have to start over. But no, the steps were just different for me — rather automated. Maybe Apple's been working on this issue. In any case, THANK YOU GregCAust! This has been driving me nuts for months.

I had the same issue and even went as far as doing a factory reset on the iPhone and on my iPad, that was a bummer. I was about to take the same leap and reformat my MB Pro when I noticed that my contact which included my iCloud ID was one of the blocked contacts. So I could not receive any messages, phone calls or anything else on any of my devices from that iCloud ID. So my suggestion would be to check and make sure that you have not accidentally blocked yourself. Do not know how it happened in my case but it did. To see if is the same mistake I made go to Settings >> Messages >> Blocked and see if your number, email, ICloud ID or anything that points to you shows up there. If it does, unblock it as this is what happened to me. Got it solved that way. Not saying that this the sure cure for your pain but it was mine :-)

After spending several frustrating hours trying re-starts, sign in and sign outs with different variations the solution was a lot simpler.

Before trying any of the above just try resetting network settings as indicated by GregCAust. This worked very well for me.

I believe that the reason is that I often switch Sim cards when traveling to different countries. This means that the same iphone goes through different configurations when using different sim cards. These configurations in turn affect the way the iphone communicates with other iOS devices or even a Mac.

Try it, the solution maybe simpler than you think.
