My ipod touch 4th generation keeps deleting my music even after restoring it and I can't sync new songs anymore

Hello, I have an iPod touch 4th generation 8GB that I purchased brand new in January 2013. The device is currently running iOS 6.1.6.

It worked perfectly fine until today, when I tried to sync one single song on it.

While i was syncing it, I noticed that on the iPod screen, the song menu begun scrolling without me touching the display, some song titles became white (as when you're syncing a song) or disappeared leaving blank lines, until the music app crashed.

When I opened it again, it said that there where no songs in my library.

I tried copying my music on the iPod again, but it only copied one song, after that when I tried syncing more songs, iTunes kept saying "preparing synchronization" (or something similar) but nothing happened.

I tried restoring the device, and initializing it as a new iPod (without using any backups) and then I started copying my songs on it again.

But after the 15th song, the problem occurred again.

What can I do?

Is it possible that it's the case of an hardware failure? My photo library wasn't affected, and except for the music problem, my iPod is running fine, it's not even an old device and no accidents even happened to him (like falling on the ground or something like that).

Any tips?

Thank you in advance for your help!

sorry to say, OS, but that guy was zooming you. When I went into the Phoenix store, the tech who talked to me was jabbering that way at first. But when I kept telling him exactly what happened, he excused himself and went off to commune with the Spirit of Woz for a couple of minutes. When he returned he told me that the issue was known to Apple and he would lay hands on my iPod touch and make it better. I lost all my music but I have it all backed up. His verdict: there was likely something amiss in the iOS code running my iPod, and when an update came out and loaded, the update hit the bad code and, not knowing what to do, it defaulted to a 'delete all' status. He reloaded the iOS & all was good. I'd prescribe another visit to the Apple store. Be forceful with those dudes. They aren't all 'geniuses'.

yeah, dammit! It just came back today! I was going off to see a basketball game and plugged in the iPod in my SUV and all of a sudden when I looked there was nothing! Most of the songs were gone and those that were listed had the little cloud icon next to them. I don't get it. I'll try again to load some music before heading back to the Apple store. I'm mightily P.O.'d.

I've been having the same problem with my iPod Touch 32GB and since (Feb 2015) been following this thread.

Also, it is the second time something like this happens to one of my Apple products: I used to have an iPod Classic 80GB and all out of the sudden I kept getting the same thing as with my iPod Touch now. Tried to fix it but ended up giving up and a couple of days later I found out Apple don't make Classic's anymore. So now all my hopes were set on the Touch, even though they don't have 80GB or cost way more per gigabyte.

Now I am starting to lose hope in Apple altogether. I hope they fix this because I've stopped using their products to listen to music.

Please share any info you get, guys, and thanks for all the previous intel.

This is happening to me too. Everytime I update my computer or iPod Touch, It wiped it. Recently its been doing it on its own anyway.

I have a 5th Gen iPod Touch, and it only lets me have my purchased items or nothing. but the thing is that it just seems to do it when it feels like it, as eventually it just magically works again. I've taken it to Apple before and they said there was no problem, so whats the deal?!

Why does it do it at all?!

Oh and now for the past week or so, its just started deleting my whole iTunes library as a whole and putting it in the trash can.

I have no idea wether this is some joke or what, but its making me angry and I want it to stop. Please help!

I'm having similar issues, though I had my Ipod for several months and this issue only just started for me on Monday.

Basically what happened was that I was transferring some songs to my Ipod, when the transfer seemed to 'lock up'. It does that occasionally, where the song doesn't completely transfer over, so I went to the Music section and deleted it to try again. Only I then glanced down at the bar that measures how much available space I have on my Ipod, and suddenly it was completely free.

So I looked at my Ipod, and all of the music and video files on it were completely gone. Itunes still has the files and musics showing, like it still has all of the playlists and music, but there's nothing on the Ipod, and nothing happens if I try to synch my Ipod to Itunes.

So I just started transferring my audio files back over to it to try and replace everything, only for it to happen again.

At this point I just set an appointment with my local Apple store. They gave me a new Ipod, told me to uninstall and re-instal Itunes (which I did), and that I should be good to go.

Well, I got home a little while ago, I uninstalled and re-installed Itunes, connected them and started to add files to my Ipod . . . and the same God ****** thing happened again. Itunes is telling me that I somehow have a dozen playlists and over 200 songs on my Ipod, yet they're all taking up zero space. Meanwhile my Ipod is completely empty.

I'm starting to think there was something screwy in the last update.

Same problem here too (New Zealand) - had a 5th Gen 64gb Ipod touch working well since 2013 then all of a sudden all the music was wiped except that U2 album that i didn't ask for. I restored the Ipod from a recent back-up and the music came back for an instant then it all vanished again - looking out for an update or some kind of recognition of this issue from Apple - Ipod works fine for Apps and photos but still can't be bothered to reload all my music onto it as i just don't know if the IOS is secure. Not cool at all.

Happy to say my songs are back and my iPod is functioning as it is supposed to. What did I do to make it happen? Well, I followed the directions, for one thing. That means I used the 'sync' function in iTunes 12.1.2.27. It's actually pretty neat. I don't use the automatic sync feature, since I have far more music in iTunes than my iPod (64GB) would hold.

I sync manually. I choose each album I want loaded on my iPod, and when I'm done I choose the "Apply" box. It takes a little while to get synced up, and goes through 4 functions, according to the address bar at the top of the iTunes page. Then, as we say, Bob's your uncle.

I hope this helps. I stress I have not had any problems working with iTunes this way. I will send up a red flag very quickly if trouble rears its cheesy head.

Citius, altius, fortius. So far.
