can't install multi-lingual voices

Trying to DL additional voices for a MB Air, Mountain Lion. It starts the download and after a few seconds show the following error message:

The update "Multilingual-Voices can not be installed. An unexpected error occured

I've tried with at least ten different voices and it's got the same lack of result each time.

Please advise.

Update: after dancing with a tambourine turned to run Milena Russian voice.

Procedure:

1. Download this link Milena version 2.0:

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/61/54/031-12078/3wb7p2njnlcynmhm1drvzjs xap56o7t0so/MLV_ru_milena2.0.0SU.pkg

The installer will install the contents of a folder System \ Library \ Speech \ Voice

2. Run a check for updates in the application AppStore -> Download updates and Milena updated to version 2.0.3

3. Enjoy ..

Find somewhere previous versions of your voice in the network, and then try to upgrade. It helped me.

Thanks nssoft96!

Your post pointed me to the general solution for every voice you want to add in ML.

Here's what you have to do:

1) download the software catalog where the ML language file URLs are included from Apple: CatalogVersion 2 ApplePostURL http://swpost.apple.com ...

2) Open this file with a text editor (e.g. TextMate) and search for the voice you want to install (e.g. in my case the German Steffi). The language files are labeled with the prefix MLV_<put your locale in here>_<Name of the voice you are looking for>… - You can skip the rest.

The only thing you need to find is the download URL for the required voice. In my example the search term was: "MLV_de_steffi".

3) When you have found the URL please pay attention that there are different URLs for each voice. You just need the one that provides the ".pkg" package. In my case it was:

http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/04/49/031-11879/7decsi3btktgatnfttjj66k rx4u1l7c6ps/MLV_de_steffi2.0.0SU.pkg

Remark: it would be possible to extract the corresponding URLs and make them available as list with a simple REGEX (if someone is searching for a REGEX exercise :-) )

4) Open the URL from 3) in a browser and your Mac should start the download of the voice right away.

5) Install the voice package

After this your new voice should be available without any additional steps.

Please allow me one additional comment: It appeared that the problem is caused by a change in the voice file structure and the update mechanism in OSX. Hey Apple: in my opinion you're still among the best laptop hardware companies in the world, but your OS development ***** more and more! All the problems with Yosemite, Mavericks and iOS 8… and now you start selling luxury watches in the chichi business? I doubt that this is a direction Steve Jobs would have chosen. You're becoming dramatically fuzzy in the your company orientation. And the worst thing is: you upset your loyal old customers. For the time being I'll still buy Apple products but I am not sure if I still will in 5 years. (and definitely no watch)...

Thanks Kird!

I also did it this way but with a catalog to Lion and described in such detail, I think it will be difficult for others.

Thank you describe in as much detail your directory is also useful 🙂 update my Milena to a newer version.

If anyone would need a reference to the voice pack for your language - write, I will help you.

Thanks again for the detailed report and catalog for ML! :)))

Sincerely, nssoft96.

You know, nothing came of it. 😟 When you install from the proposed folder you Milena disappears from the list of loaded language. I suspect that the case in the synthesizer. He does not recognize the language.

Please tell us your version of OS X. I would appreciate if send me your folder Synthesizers for verification. It is located in the folder:

System/Library/Speech/Synthesizers

Sincerely, nssoft96.

Hello nssoft96, I'm running ML 10.8.5. I do not have an older system at hand right now so I couldn't test your configuration. On Yosemite and Mavericks the update mechanism works out of the box, so there is no problem to be fixed.

If you used the ML voice on an Lion system this will likely create a problem.

So I advice everybody following the steps described above: make sure you are on ML 10.8.5. Beside this all this advice is without any guaranty and on your own risk.
