2014 Macbook Pro Retina turns off randomly

Hey all, I purchased my Macbook about 4 months ago and only last month it has started having these weird phases where it turns off at random times..

Sometimes it will stay on for hours and then sometimes it won't even make it past the boot screen.. I have made a video of it doing it.

Any info would be great!

Any update from Apple on this issue?

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with similar issue:

During normal operation MBP screen turns black and shuts down.

It doesn't seem to happen on safe boot.

Can't find any "shutdown" string in the syslog output.

Tried SMC reset and OS reinstall - didn't help.

This seems to be a general MBP 2014 defect,

as I'm seeing a lot of similar posts for the same model.

Thanks.

Hey joe! Found this thread yesterday and I have the same issue. Please contact me at twitter @josefdolezal. I also found similar issue on iFixit: https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/357764/MBP+turns+off+Randomly+Without+Warnin g

(These are two different threads)

I think we should contact Apple together, maybe some online magazine can help reach all the people with this issue.

I have the same issue on MBP 15 2015.

I did everything: reset SMC, reinstalling OS(this helped for 2 days)..

Hardware test passed..

But every morning i open my MBP it keeps turning off. Even when if i was lucky to pass the login screen, there may window popped up saying: Are you sure you want to switch off...?

but after about 10-15 min of try it starts to work normal for the rest of the day..

This is my first Mac computer for over 15 years PC use.

Should i need to switch back to PC?😕

i made a video of that...

Same problem here on a mid-2013 15in MBP with Intel GPU. Same behavior as shown in the original poster's video. Has been getting worse over the course of the last 9 months or so. It seems to be worse when computer is under thermal stress, but it does happen randomly even when computer is cool. It seems to happen less when on a hard desk, much more often when on my lap. It also will happen after I've put my computer to sleep and put it into my bag.

One thing to note that I'm not sure happened for OP was that when the computer "shuts off" the fans start going full tilt and I have to hold the power button to shut them off, and then hit power again to turn the machine back on.
