The first time I tried to use my iPhone 7 with my Apple TV (in Australia), i got a message on my phone screen, asking for the Airplay TV password.

After trying numerous passwords, consulting the internet, and getting really frustrated, I saw the box on the TV, with the passcode!

It would have made more sense for the message on my phone to say something like, "Please see your TV screen (while connected to Apple TV), for the required password! :)

I entered the 4-digit code from the TV, and my movie started mirroring/playing, on the TV--woo hoo!

Hope this helps. :)

I am having this same issue also and I have read all the materials. Yesterday my AirPlay icon disappeared from my menu. After reading through everything on the subject, I discovered that I could not obtain the most recent iTunes update because I didn't have Yosemite, so I updated to Yosemite today. The icon has come back to the menu (although I cannot see the icon on ITunes anyplace). Both the Apple TV and my computer are on the same wifi internet and they worked fine before.

When I try to turn on the Apple TV in the AirPlay Display box, I immediately receive a box titled "AirPlay Device Password" with an instruction "Enter the AirPlay code for 'Apple TV'". I never received this notice before when using Apple TV and my computer with AirPlay. I followed the instructions in the advice given in the community postings of this conversation. I cannot even open the code to enter one--it does not behave like the instructions indicate. I tried inputting a password in the password input at the Apple TV security to see if this would work. This listed as incorrect code when input into the pop up box. In Apple TV Security I have none checked off and nothing will come up when I hit the Code line and nothing is in the password link now.

But still the same box appears whenever I click on Apple TV, either in the icon on the menu bar or the display choice in System Preferences. When the code link is chosen on the Apple TV security, the explanation box to the left mentions that IOS users have to input the user code from their device, but nothing is mentioned about a computer. It is also confusing because the Apple TV security menu has a code and a password and the pop up box for the code uses "password" in the title and "code" in the instruction line and the input box. All the same, there is nothing in the code or the password links of the Apple TV Security.

Well I have no idea what is going on. I appreciate all of your support, but I have reset, restored and tried everything have read on this and still I receive either a cannot connect message or still the request for code box pops up. I also have not been able to find the Airplay icon in iTunes, and after the restore, the icon appears and then disappears in the menu line at the top of the screen. I have spent hours on this and still come back to square one. I hit the internet and other folks are having similar problems, if not the exact same one. Do you know if colinfromador's issue was solved? If so, I wonder what did it for him. Again, I appreciate your attention to this and your support. I'm just so frustrated right now, I'm wondering if I'll ever get this to work correctly again. Thanks again, Gene

Know what? Yeah I'm having a very similar crap issue. Upgraded iPad to 8.x something... Was running Netflix via AirPlay to my appletv and after 10 minutes it shut itself off. I tried to get it up again and it started asking me for the AirPlay code, The security screen on my Apple TV popped up where the settings are for this ******** 'feature'

EVen though None is chosen instead of Onscreen code in the security window on the Apple TV, it's still prompting me for the **** code. Unlike one of the previous posters, 50% of the time, a code actually does pop up on my tv, right under where the checked box for 'none' (no code please) is. What's worse is that entering the code only causes a new window to show up asking for a new code. Yes, I've run thru every combination of settings to see if any of the work. It's a no go.

total total crap.

I have exactly the same issue, so more than just two. All started since I upgraded the op-systems on my i-pad and laptop. Tried reset/restore on the ATV, same issue. As the only difference was the operating systems on the other devises, insinuates that it is not a network issue as it worked perfectly before the upgrades.

Has anyone resolved this issue, as it is becoming infuriating!

I had the same problem. I upgraded to Yosemite and suddenly my Apple TV wouldn't connect. It kept asking me for a code even though I had no restrictions enabled. Tried enabling a code, still didn't work with the code. Network was fine. Updated the Apple TV, no difference. I finally figured it out. I disabled my firewall and like magic it suddenly started working. I had enabled the firewall during the Yosemite upgrade.

Does anyone know what firewall rules need to be set so that Apple TV will work?

Tried resetting apple tv. Now I can't get any sound unless I turn off Wi-Fi. It says I'm not connected to Airplay when I turn wi-fi back on. So I clicked to turn Airplay on. Then I tried disconnecting, and it won't disconnect.

I've been using apple products for nearly 20 years, and I've never had the amount of problems I've had in the last couple months. This is crap.

By the way, if it's any use to anyone - when I'm asked for the code it's displaying on my tv.

I was getting the popups a few times a minute. Very frustrating. This is just garbage.

Now the popups have stopped, but Airplay is still automatically connecting whenever I plug in my audio cable. I plug it it, and Airplay comes on, and can't be turned off. I unplug the cable, and it's off.

Of course I have no idea why this is happening or how to stop it.

Same problem. Tried all fixes but failed. MacBook and latest Apple TV are all running latest software, including Yosemit update earlier this week. Tried turning security password requirement on and off via AppleTV, but that did nothing. On Airplay section of AppleTV, I was able to generate a code by toggling the Require Device Verification setting from Off to On. Now, a 4 digit code appears, but my Macbook keeps telling me that it is the incorrect code. Huh? This is a frustrating new development.
