how do i get a code for airplay for apple tv
Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
Exact same problem here. Everything was working a couple of weeks ago and now it's not. I keep getting the stupid code request issue you get on my 4th gen ATV. And can't even connect to my 3rd gen ATV at all which I could previously. So I guess the issue is MAC OS related not Apple TV.
I have this happening too and I don't have an apple TV. This has been since the iOS 10 'update. When I have bluetooth on and listen to audio or watch a video using my bluetooth hearing aids I get the message to enter the airplay password for apple TV. How do I get this to stop? Apple needs to go back to the drawing board on this one.
If there is a popup on your mac when your are trying to connect using air play look at the code on the tv screen, the tv screen will say when you are trying to connect to that tv using airplay: "AirPlay Code: (4 digit code here)"
Hi. You may have required the code because the Apple TV was configured that way, in Settings > Airplay. But you will also see it if you're using peer-to-peer AirPlay. This may happen when your phone and Apple TV are not on the same network. Then, the phone may locate Apple TV using Bluetooth, and will AirPlay video over a separate point-to-point WiFi channel, independent of the network.
What a PIA. I upgraded today to Sierra 10.12.4 (I hate when everything works, and you are promoted to upgrade, and then stuff breaks on a busy day...) Anyway, I had the same issue of request for AppleTV code. Couldn't disable it; couldn't find code. Rebooted several times, both devices, Macbook Pro and Apple TV Gen 4. Nothing. Took the survey, gave it zeros, and then walked into the other room to see a four-digit code on my TV.
I think the answer is to give the survey zeros.
Hi donzibaby. tvOS 10.2, released March 27, makes Require Device Verification the default for AirPlay. This requires you to enter a one-time code the first time you connect from a given device or computer. Apple TV remembers these devices and won't ask again.
Thanks, Diana. What was weird was that it didn't throw the code up on the TV for several iterations. Kept coming with a "need iOS level something or other" -- which I was well past. Interesting--and helpful--to know that it was the tvOS upgrade, and not the iOS upgrade. Why the code didn't show was likely due to that perceived (but inaccurate) iOS minimum.
Thanks for the feedback!
Yes. That Device Requirements message actually means "invalid protocol" and should probably be reworded. Probably, one of your gyrations finally got the updated code running on the computer, and that got things going.
First I went into setting on appletv
then toRemotes and devices
then to remote app and devices
then to my mac and tried to connect to apple tv
then I went back to my tv and saw the code
entered the code on my Mac and it was fixed
What "code"? To use Airplay between a Mac or iOS device and an Apple TV, you need to be on the same WiFi network and signed in to the same Apple ID. What code are you being asked for?
airplay device is asking me to enter the airplay code for Apple TV where do i get a code from
Then you will need to reset ATV
Running fine on my system and I have seen no other reports so it's unlikely.

That made sense. I did that--took all the time to reset and first got couldn't connect to Apple TV message. Now the code message has returned.
Has the device been modified in any way? You may need to do a restore
