Thanks, Eric! I've tested using a new Admin => No change in behavior. Tested in Safe Mode => No change in behavior. I then removed most all of my apps. No change in behavior. So I figured I'd just use a time machine backup from a week ago to override the issue. However - and this is why I'm now using my ipad to type this response - when I went through the process , and was asked to reboot,....upon reboot, I was presented with "you are unable to log into file vault user account at this time. An error has occurred." So now I'm unable to even log into my machine, whether in normal or safe mode. I have no startup disk, but went onto Internet recovery and opened Disk Utility. Any ideas on how I can resolve this new issue.?

This issue seems to be also discussed on this thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6431361

I posted solution to that thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6431361?answerId=28989558022#28989558022&tstart=0#28989558

My solution is pasted here:

My business partner was experiencing the same issue from home on a MacBook Pro and iMac on a wireless network - she could not access any google sites or services (google.com, gMail, Google Drive, youtube, etc.). Both machines were running 10.9.5 and upgrading to 10.10 solved the problem. Here is a list of things we tried first which did NOT work:

- added dns 8.8.8.8

- software/security updates (without updating from 10.9 to 10.10)

- turn off extensions in safari

- delete google cookies in safari

- install chrome and firefox; problem was consistent across all browsers

- repair permissions

- boot as a new, different user

- boot into safe mode

- remove startup items

- reset router

- update router firmware

I had the Safari Can't Establish Secure Connection problem for a long time, and didn't realize how closely linked the issue was to the DNS server that had been assigned in Network Settings. Clearing Website Data in Safari Preferences never worked, and there are many other strange and convoluted solutions that didn't do the trick. Resetting DNS worked for me, FINALLY.

To paraphrase Linc Davis' previous post:

Unlock the Network preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Cllck Advanced, open the DNS tab, and change the server addresses to the following:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.

That's what worked for me. The Google DNS page is worth a look too because it starts to give you an idea of how their DNS system works and why Safari would have trouble with your own ISP's settings, for instance.

I'm having the same problem. Yesterday I reset the PRAM. That fixed up a lot of problems I wasn't aware I was having. Today I tried resetting DNS to Google servers like CBIRD said. It allowed me to come into the forum discussions. Then I tried to upload the picture below, went to white screen, and when I clicked the back button, I got a message like the screen below. Nothing.

User uploaded file

This seems to happen for no apparent reason on any web page , will connect the first time, then not any longer.

Wow, this is such a mysterious issue with Safari. I suspect a lot of people have just given up and use a different browser. I think Safari or the default Network Configuration might be "over secure". Very much a hassle, and has been for years.

Before I switched to the Google DNS in Network Settings, I would turn my WiFi on and off, which would create a new local DNS and that would fix it. Not a great way to solve the problem, but it made me aware that the DNS was the issue. So far, the Google DNS 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4 have been working OK for me.
