"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!" - U.S. Senator Stuart Smalley

Let's talk workaround, shall we?

I can see by the screenshot of the bob's iCloud Drive that you

  • had to "Create" a few folders to "overpopulate" the capacity of the window to display it all...

    "Untitled" + "Untitled 10-14" --

  • and since the item count is "19",
    • you numbered them (OR the system did it for you by you NOT naming them)
      • "2" through "15"
      • 4 Items on the top row actually look real and useful
    • iOS does what I hate about some alphanumeric sort lists,
      • it thinks that "10, 11, 12, 13, etc." comes after "1" and "20,21,22,23,etc." comes after "2"
      • The OS X Finder does NOT sort the list of files this way
      • OS X (in the background) does the funky sort when running

copy/paste of a selected group of files that have numeric prefixes -

        • '01image.jpg -> 99image.jpg' will show progress bar funky sorted - '01,11,12,13,14,15,17,18,19, 02, 20,21,22,etc.
    • THIS would drive me crazy if it happened in the Finder!

All of this has a point (I think)

What happens if you OPEN one of those folders? Any of 'em.

  • Can you then "Create a NEW Folder" WITHIN that folder (like a normal file system, anywhere any system, any OS)?
  • If so, bob, try this:
  1. Create a folder system like the OS X Finder system defaults
    - or the DropBox system defaults (List view not withstanding, it still has Defaults that "Behave" in special ways)
    User uploaded file
  2. INSIDE these folders, NEST more folders... for example ("ƒ" = Folder)
    1. "Documents ƒ"
      1. "Keynote ƒ"
        1. files
        2. Projects
      2. "Numbers ƒ"
        1. files
        2. Projects
      3. "Pages ƒ"
    2. files
    3. Projects
    4. "Pictures ƒ"
      1. files
      2. "ƒs by whatever convention you like"
    5. "Movies ƒ"

      ditto

    6. "Et Cetera"

What this accomplishes is a

Manageable number of VISIBLE Folders with a virtually UN-limited number of nested folders

as with ANY file system, one would PLAN Ahead for one's needs & tastes - FAR into the Future

OR wing it later on.

Headlong dash into mediocrity... not a very Jobs-ish launch of a feature.

User uploaded file

And it only took me 5 months to learn how to do it properly.

And it only took - AlohaBob, one of the fastest advancing, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, curious folks I know here - 5 months to learn how to do it properly.

I'd say that doesn't quite make it as 'Easy to Use' - it would be bad enough if everything worked as planned, but as a non-iPad guy, I can't see a different way to design the UX given the limits of the iOS UX design

User uploaded file vs User uploaded file -- at least the iPad display has a fighting chance with a desktop display's real estate advantage

Remember when these handheld things had a "Stylus" for fine work?
