In trying to understand the iCloud Drive FAQ, iCDr (acronym henceforth), it sounds exactly like DropBox (Pro version would be best comparison) EXCEPT it is proprietary to iCDr embracing Apps - unlike DropBox which doesn't care what kind of file or app - it is merely keeping versions and latest as the one displayed. Versions available with a little digging.

I suppose that if I was gonna base my entire business life on iWork(?), this would make some sense. But I would also need to start from scratch as if I were just out of college! Nifty if it stays 'all in the family'.

buenos noches, amigo - suppertime!

iCloud Drive is a first attempt at letting apps share information.

Apple's first attempt? Methinks the ProApps like Logic & Final Cut do a bit of sharing - iMovie & iPhoto do some too, Probably Garage Band

Many software publishers have 'collaborated' swimmingly for decades

Adobe (and now Macromedia branded as Adobe) - all do very well and share libraries (plug-ins they called 'em)

[too lazy to make tricky folder icons if they didn't already exist]

MS Office has been great at it as well

My ignorance shows if I think this is an attempt to "Consumerize" Collaboration ??

I noticed DropBrox recently offering a similar feature with the Microsoft apps.

Unfamiliar. But if they are Cloudifying Office similarly it must a trend in the way the Universe will Work in the Future. All I know is, that I can save any kind of file to DropBox "Folder" on my Mac - it is REALLY on the DropBox cloud drive. If I have multiple devices - Macs, PCs, iDevices - my 'Account' puts the selfsame "Folder" on all - its just like a Network Drive on a server on the 13th Floor (no buildings have a "13th Floor" - why IS that?) - except it is in Colorado under a mountain or something.

buenos noches

It's called a sandbox design. Each app carried it's own info and there was no sharing between apps. If I download a PDF to iBooks it stayed in iBooks. If I needed the PDF in another app I could mail it to myself then open it in another app if I had one that opened PDF's. Don't confuse what you can do on a computer with what you can do on a iPad, they're two different animals.
