what is error 42408 when trying to sync phone to laptop?

Trying to sync phone to laptop and just get a message on screen saying "cant sync because of erroe -42408. Have tried updating software on both phone and laptop, switched on and off and reset to factory settings, but still no joy. Now my phone seems to be stuck in basic format... unable to re add my apps etc?
