Can I send email using my own domain address with iCloud the way I can with gmail?

Let's say I own mydomain.com and have a myaddress@mydomain.com email account. I have set that up to forward to gmail, and that would be easy to switch to iCloud. Here's the tricky part: gmail allows me to send email as myaddress@mydomain.com. I've been doing this for years and it works, but I'd like to switch from gmail to iCloud. Can I set up this same behavior with an iCloud @me.com address (which I already have but haven't been using yet)? I know I can obviously switch the forwarding of incoming mail to my @me.com address... but can I send myaddress@mydomain.com email through iCloud the way I can with gmail? All of my devices are Apple: a Mac Mini using Apple's Mail app, and an iPhone and an iPad both using the Apple email app, so I'd rather switch everything over from gmail to iCloud.

P.S. Awe, c'mon Apple. Don't turn those fake addresses into links. I just used them for the sake of giving an example.

Mac mini, OS X Yosemite (10.10), null

I assume you're looking to get proper push notifications with your personal domain? One workaround (I'm not sure if it's the best) to use iCloud for that is to set up a third party SMTP server in the middle to rewrite the outgoing address. There are places like Fastmail that offer services like that or you can use your own server. It's a little tricky to set up initially (you'll need to add a DKIM signature to your domain's DNS to authorize the rewrite, and change your outgoing server setting) but after that it's easy to use and transparent. Csound1 thanks for your lovely input.

You can use the Mail app on your Mac to use your domain email account.

However, it won't be accessable via the iCloud.com online site, only thru your Mail app on your Mac.

If you want all of your domain emails to be accessable via your online iCloud.com account just set your domain email to automatically forward all of the emails to your iCloud.com account. However, any replies will come from the iCloud account.

If you have a mobile device you can also set it up to use your domain email account and not have to use the online iCloud.com.

I desperately need to figure out how to do this! Please tell me the workaround! inside of Gmail - it says 'delivered on behalf of' and my gmail main account! i have a few domains for different aspects of me - businesses, blogs, etc. It is SO annoying that people when they 'reply' get the .me or .icloud or .gmail accounts! urghhhh

Yes, you can do this - I do exactly same thing.

I have myemail@myownpersonaldomain.uk. My domain is hosted and that provider forwards all my email to my iCloud email address, which is synchronised with IMAP across my iMac, iPad, iPhone and also the iCloud web interface.

THe trick is not to use Apple's auto setup options, but to set mail up manually. I also think Apple will not allow outgoing mail that is not the correct iCloud address, so it's best to use either your ISP's outgoing SMTP server or, much better, a third party service. I use SMTP2GO, which is pretty cheap

i apologise, but I'm redecorating my house so my iMac is not up and running, but the settings should be easily worked out. On an iPad or iPhone, assuming you already have an iCloud address, do the following

Settings>iCloud - make sure Mail is turned off. Everything else can be on

Settings>Mail, Contents,Calender - Add Account and choose Other, NOT iCloud, then choose Add Mail Account

Type in your name (your name you want to see on emails), your email (use your private domain email here, such as myemail@mydomain.com), your iCloud password for Password, and the description you want on your mailbox, eg My Email

You then need the following settings:

Incoming Mail Setver Host Name = p03-I map.mail.me.com

Username = the first half of your iCloud address (before the @)

Password will be completed for you

OUtgoing SMTP server - see above, it can't be Apple

That will get your mail delivered to your iCloud account, but everybody will only see you private domain email address. Let's just hope Apple never turn off that p03 setver!

Hope that helps
