How can I get iPhoto for OS 10.6.8 Computer?

I am wanting to move all my iPhoto pix from the computer that I am preparing to upgrade to OS 10.10 and have tried to move them via flash drive to a computer running 10.6.8, which is where this one is until I upgrade it. I could not find iPhoto on the older computer and tried to bring it over on the flash drive and it copied fine BUT will not install or open. I got some error message. I had already checked the App Store and all I can find is the latest version that requires 10.10 and I cannot get it with the OS 10.6.8. How can I get an iPhoto on the 10.6.8 computer so that I can see what came over?

I also need to know how to find and copy on the drive specific albums. The only albums that show up are a hodgepodge of older albums and none of my newer pictures. I need to know where to find these as I probably am only missing a few albums.

Thanks.

I bought it on eBay and it is an Apple issue with the logo and a disclaimer saying to update of 10.5.6 before installing it. It has a flyer insert with instructions that also was an Apple issue. Someone probably stocked up on these since Apple does not seem to want to be user-friendly to people of limited skills trying to do what I need to do.

Thanks.

I now am back to seeing the iPhoto and my pictures in the "media" window to the side.

good.

How can I edit my photos? On the other computer I could just click on the iPhoto app in the dock and do it. Now all I have in the dock is iWeb.

But you reinstalled iLIfe? Then drag iPhoto from the Applications folder to the Dock.

Which version of iphoto do you now have installed?

I have iWeb 09 currently. I could not get info on the iPhoto part of it. I hate to say it, but I am afraid to click on iPhoto as this was what caused iWeb to stop working before. I will send these links over to that computer and see what it will do. If I click on the now-in-the-dock iPhoto app, am I likely to crash again? Could the crash have happened because I brought the iPhoto stuff over from this computer before installing the iLife disc? I am most cautious at this point. Thanks for the advice.

LONG story. I have to upgrade THIS computer to Yosemite in order to use Finale, my music writing software. I did trial run by updating to Yosemite on the other iMac to see what worked and what would become a problem with the higher OS. Once the questions were answered, I went about uninstalling Yosemite on it and going back to Snow Leopard so that I could use my Acrobat doc that is not compatible with Yosemite on THAT computer as well as any other train wrecks I would encounter.

I found that iPhoto was MIA on the other computer and brought over my iPhoto pix from this computer via flash drive, since it is enormous. That is what led to the succession of emails about what to do and led me to buy the iLife disc on eBay. I installed it and could see my pictures and folders in the media window but then clicked directly on the iPhoto icon. The result was a never-ending procession of the error message that iWeb could not show iPhoto items and would not even open. I re installed the iLife bundle and trashed the iPhoto items. I then re copied the iPhoto items from the thumb drive and am where we are now.

I HAVE dragged the iPhoto to the dock and am afraid to click on it so as to repeat all the steps above. This is most perplexing.

Thanks.

iWeb says it is v. 3.0.

If you're still going to use iWeb then update it to the last version averrable with this updater: iWeb 3.0.4

Once you have iPhoto working with 10.10.3 do the following:

1 - delete the com.apple.iApps.plist file from your Home/Library/Preferences folder. By default it is invisible so do the following to make it visible:

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. This also works for Mavericks and Yosemite.

For Mavericks and Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring up this window:

2 -launch iPhoto and then iWeb. Try the Media pane again to see if you can access the images in iPhoto.

3 - If you still have problems with iWeb try the following:

A - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your

User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.

B - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your

User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).

C - launch iWeb and try again.

I know it's been said before but it might be time to migrate to a modern website development application. iWeb was discontinued 4 years ago and it was somewhat lacking in features at that time. There are many potential replacements. Just search this community for "iWeb replacement" or "iWeb alternative" to get topics discussing the potential candidates.

Since I have iPhoto working on both computers, I assume I can quit having to fire up iWeb. In fact, I removed it from the dock and dragged iPhoto to the dock. I assume this advice is needed once I get the cahonies to update this main computer to 10.10. I appreciate this advice and will go to it once I pull the trigger on the update. Thanks.
