incorrect autofill email in safari

Thanks so much for your input Velocityblade. Although I had the exact same problem and followed your instructions - it didn't work for me but it did narrow down what the problem was - with Spelling & Grammar. I also called support, showed her your link (which shortened my support call considerably). She watched me on screen share as I tried your system and agreed that it should have worked. Then she paused to consult other support personnel and then had me open "Notes", create a new note, type in my email address correctly in the new note, click and drag to highlight the correct email address, then right click and choose "learn spelling". So yeah, basically the same thing but if it doesn't work in Safari then try Notes as listed above. Again, Thanks Velocityblade for pointing me in the correct direction. :-)

This too was annoying the **** out of me for some time after I entered an erroneous email address, which would forever reappear via autofill. I couldn’t find anything untoward in autofill settings, contact information, or keychain. The solutions already proposed make me think the solution possibly lies in the local user dictionary where user-modified words are stored for spellchecking.

Correcting misspelled words added to user dictionary -

• Your Library folder is hidden in OS X EL Capitan.
• Before you can edit the Dictionary, the Library folder has to be made visible.
• Click on the Go menu in the Finder and hold down the option key. The Library folder will appear in the menu.
• Navigate to User/Library/Spelling. There should be a file called LocalDictionary.
• Open that file in TextEdit, remove the misspelled word, and save the changes.

It seemed to work for me, but as with other solutions, this is not guaranteed!

Nope, didn't work. The LocalDictionary has the right address. I tried the other approach (Spelling & Grammar) but that too was no-go. I've got to be REALLY careful in filling out forms. I can't count the number of times I've had to call various organizations (including the Federal govt) to correct the mistake because I didn't notice it in time. Apple really needs to do something about this! (but they won't)

I had this same problem. Went through a bunch of steps with Apple. Here's what finally worked.

Go to any website where you need to sign in with your email. Start to type and when the incorrect spelling autofills, highlight it by using your mouse. Hold the control key down and click on it to ensure it is highlighted. A box to the right will appear. Scroll down and click on Show Spelling and Grammar. Then click on Learn. Nothing will appear to be happening, but close out of that box and this should now correct the problem.

Nothing worked for me except the solution in Notes.

1) Write any word in Notes that is not in the dictionary (i.e. your email address)

2) Right-click it and choose LEARN SPELLING

or

1) Write the wrong spelling (of e-mail, log-in etc.) in Notes

2) Right-click it and choose UNLEARN SPELLING

This has worked perfectly for 100% of the time.

Found a solution, reorder the emails in your own contact. Just tried it, would keep coming up with my work email as it was the first email address in my contacts. Change it so the one you want to autofill is first. Then it will work.

Using your approach with one variation fixed this. Go to a random login>rightclick on the blank username/email.selection box of which an option is spelling and grammar>highlight this with your cursor and another selection opens up to show spelling and grammar>in the top block type in the correct spelling >click change>highlight this name as the correct spelling in the second box below>click the learn button. This fixed the issue for me.

Another possible solution is to delete the Text Replacement words that may be set up in your device - whether this is a result of iOS trying to be helpful and create a shorthand option for your I don't know.

My specific problem was when typing an email address into any page/address box etc the iPad would auto fill an old email address version as soon as we got to "@" (this happened to both me and my other half).

Solution was to enter Settings and select General/Keyboard/Text Replacement where I found a list which included the offending shorthand autofills. Selected Edit and deleted them...they no longer appear.

Thank you! Your post led me to the solution I needed, which was slightly different from yours. I typed the spelling I want into the username field, used the two-finger click you recommended to bring up the dialogue box (who knew?), and selected Learn Spelling. This seems to have solved the presumptuous autofill problem.
