iMa Mac. HD MY QUESTION: LOST EVERYTHING ON COMPUTER. HAVE USED DISK 1 AND 2 AND REINSTALLED. IMAIL AND ICHAT WILL NOT SEND.

IMac OS X, version 10.5.8; GHzIntel Core 2 Duo; Memory of GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM; MAC HD;

MY QUESTION: LOST EVERYTHING ON COMPUTER. BACKUP DID NOT OR WAS NOT WORKING. I HAVE REINSTALLED DISC 1 & 2 THAT CAME WITH THE COMPUTER. IMAIL WILL NOT SEND OR RECEIVE NOR WILL ICHAT. I HAVE USED APPLE SUPPORT FOR IMAC MAIL AND STILL NO PROGRESS. ??????

I do not know if gMail is POP. To set up the gMail program I clicked on Google Mail.com/

We can send and receive with gMail.

http:www.google.com/accounts/DisplayunlockCaptch--------- "told me that the requested URL was not found on this server and that is all we know".

Ah, so gMail works OK both ways then? I guess I misunderstood.

Did you try changing the port to 110 & authentication to SSL Off on the other one?

No, IChat is not .

IChat.com cannot find that i ever had a password for my user name. They suggest I contact Apple.

Trying to get a new user name and password, IChat.com tells me I must have ICloud or 10.6 version. Mine is 10.5.8😟

Still working one it though.

Ah, yes, 10.5 has been left behind for most of iCloud, but you can get a free AOL/AIM account that will work...

Creating a new AIM ID

If your system cannot be upgraded to OS X 10.7.2 or later, you can create a new AIM ID to use with your current version of OS X by following these steps:

Create a new AIM ID from the AOL website.

Add this new account to iChat by following the instructions in this article.

After setting up your AIM account in iChat, Open iChat preferences.

Click the Accounts button in the preferences window, then select your new AIM account from the list of accounts.

Click the Server Settings tab and make sure that the option to use SSL is selected for your new AIM account.

Close the iChat preferences window.

Creating a new Apple ID requires you to re-add your buddies to your new buddy list. Re-add your buddies to your by following the instructions in this article.

Remove your old mac.com account from iChat preferences.
