"Slip" Tool In Logic?

Hello, everyone. Does Logic have a tool analagous to Final Cut Pro's "slip" tool? This tool allows you to take a section (audio or video) and move it forward or back in that section WITHOUT having to actually move the section itself in the timeline. Sorry if this explanation didn't make much sense . . .

I typed "slip" in the key commands window, and, alas, nothing was shown. I figured I didn't have the correct term, but I thought I'd try on there anyway.

Anyone have any idea what I'm referring to and if Logic has it's own version of a "slip" tool?

Thank you very much, everyone, in advance, for all the help,
Javier Calderon

That tip that was linked to does not slip, it's shortening the region. A slip edit does not move the region start and end points, just the content inside the region.

Correct. The Audio window way (the one you described earlier) is the only way to actually slip a Region's content while keeping BOTH borders intact (I believe BM5.5 should get the star!)

However, in real life, I find it usually much quicker and easier to do it from the Arrange window, and don't mind the right border being moved. But then again it depends what you do and how you work.

Just sharing ideas.

Thank you very much for clarifying that up as succinctly as you did, BM. I actually tried all the mouse moves you were listing as I was reading them, and that's exactly what happened.

Okay. Thank you also for clarifying the location of the Audio Window for me.

Ugh . . . I went there and realized the Audio Window is that window that I've always dreaded going to that has that monstrously convoluted list of intelligible number and symbols . . .

I'll try to decipher and figure out just WHICH one of those is the specific clip I'm trying to deal with.

Thank you again for the info,
Javier

I'll click on the link and follow that suggestion before anything else right now. Just to see what that method does. 🙂

And oh yeah, and David. Keep me posted on when the next LALPUG meeting is (I'm on the mailing list)! I went to the last one at the Apple Store in the Grove and it was mighty informative (although the majority of it flew waaayyyy over my noggen).

Wow, BM . . . That was a LOT less painful than I thought it was going to be (lol!)

I just went into the Audio Window, and the selected region was already show in it. Then I positioned the mouse toward the bottom of the region just as you mentioned, and it turned into the double arrows. I clicked and moved, and the region's start and end points moved along with it, while keeping the region position in the Arrange Window intact!

Thank you, sir (or maam).

🙂
