iPhone camera roll video won't play

Some videos from a few months ago that I have saved to my camera roll won't play. What comes up is a little loading circle like it is trying to load the video but it never plays. I know for a fact that when the videos were saved, they worked. All of them are saved videos from snapchat, but some work and others don't. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?

Thanks.

I believe I found a solution to this.

Go to your camera roll, then go to the video that you want to play, at the bottom left press the arrow button, than hit duplicate, once duplicated you will have two of the same video, go to the new video and play it (it should work) and once I played the new video both the original and new video worked. Not sure if this will work for everyone but now all my videos are working. Hope this helped.

Anyone hace any updates to this issue? My partner had the same problem a few months ago and even went to the apple store who advised him to backup and then download again from iClouds which I can see some of you have done!

Now I have the same issue! At first I thought it's because I selected "Optimise iPhone storage" under Settings > icloud > Photos as I was running out of data on my phone but after checking my partners phone he had the "download and keep original" which is the other option in this settings but we both have the same issue!

I only have 60 videos which the longest would be around minute or just a little over and not many pictures so I don't know why it's happening! We both upgraded software at the same time and have both iPhone 5 so don't understand why my videos would not be working months later after my partners!

How did you manage to not get an error saying, "There was an error while preparing to share. Please try again later."

Because that is the error I keep getting...

I enabled iCloud Photo Sharing, then went to my videos and selected two or three videos, then clicked the upload button that's next to the "Add to" button. Then clicked iCloud Photo Sharing and it gives me that error :/

Thé answer is quite simple. There is nothing wrong with our phones or setups. It’s just that Apple servers *****. Apple has never been able to correctly handle clouds. Look at google. They know how to deal with servers workload but Apple no. They made iDisk, me.com, iCloud and never they have been successful at being responsive. But they have billions. Glad to ear that. But i’d Rather have them spend those billions in offering jobs to google’s Network manager.

All google activities are network based. If they acted like Apple they would be dead for a long time.

The link shows you how to restore/ back etc which is great and I've done this several times. It doesn't fix the issue. Am I missing something in your link? Please somebody have a fix, I've tried everything, duplicating doesn't work, won't let me share, somebody said they "deleted the video then airdropped it", that makes no sense to me. Care to elaborate on details of this "deleting and then air dropping" trick? I'm clutching at strings, there are over 140 saved snapchats from my trip to Europe :(

This is exactly why I switched to Google Photos. They let you back everything up to the cloud and then delete on your device to make space. The way Apple handles cloud storage makes so little sense that it took me a while to understand. Wish I had never tried Apple cloud. All it did was create big blank patches in my photos and now won't play my videos. Between trying it out and switching back I know I've lost some things. At least from here on out I won't have to worry.

Hey Apple, when your phone only had 10 gb of space, how brilliant a plan is it to force people to keep everything on their phone, even if it is slightly compressed?

Me too. But it also says for certain videos that they "no longer exist" or that there's an error if I try to export or edit them. There's also and exclamation point in a circle in the right corner of the videos, some from Snapchat, others recorded straight from my camera. It seems like the videos aren't even there and I don't know what to do to save them.

After restoring to a replacement phone from iCloud, none of my videos would play - just the loading circle spinning endlessly.

The solution I have found is to select the videos (All of them or one by one, makes no difference) and press the upload button.

The press iCloud Photo Sharing. It will show a timer saying "preparing". Once this is done, cancel the upload and hey presto - the videos now play.

Obviously this may not be a solution to everyone's problem here but it worked for me in my case. Something in the "preparing" action seems to make the videos playable.
