iPhone camera roll video won't play

Some videos from a few months ago that I have saved to my camera roll won't play. What comes up is a little loading circle like it is trying to load the video but it never plays. I know for a fact that when the videos were saved, they worked. All of them are saved videos from snapchat, but some work and others don't. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?

Thanks.

This is exactly why I switched to Google Photos. They let you back everything up to the cloud and then delete on your device to make space. The way Apple handles cloud storage makes so little sense that it took me a while to understand. Wish I had never tried Apple cloud. All it did was create big blank patches in my photos and now won't play my videos. Between trying it out and switching back I know I've lost some things. At least from here on out I won't have to worry.

Hey Apple, when your phone only had 10 gb of space, how brilliant a plan is it to force people to keep everything on their phone, even if it is slightly compressed?

My friend has an IPhone 6 and last night she had the same problem. Some of her videos on her phone played, but 3 of them just got the spinning wheel. She deleted two of the videos. I wanted to try something so I selected one of the deleted videos and clicked on "restore". I then used Airdrop to copy the video to my IPhone 5s. Somewhere during the process of either it restoring the video or using the Airdrop process it said something about "Preparing video, please wait". Once the Airdrop was done, the video on my IPhone 5s and the one restored on her IPhone 6 would then play. We imported the video into Photo on her Macbook and it played on there as well. So we did the same thing to the other video that was deleted and it began to play as well. The third video we did not do anything to it, but all of sudden, it would now play. So it appears that using the restore feature of a deleted photo or in the process of using Airdrop, it does some sort of repair of the video and allows it to then play. Don't know if this will work for everyone, but worked for us. Good luck.

I Had the exact same problem and just a few minutes ago i finally found a solution that helped me.

What i did was delete apps that i do not use so much and things like unwanted photos and vids (optional) that take

up storage on my phone then once i cleared that i think was enough i played my videos and now they play again.

Also in settings-photo&camera on iphone i had chosen download and keep originals Option, but i think you can try

either one it should not matter.

I found a solution! This applies ONLY to Snapchat videos that you saved and will not play or load.

Before Snapchat came up with the "memories" feature, you could simply save Snapchat videos straight to your camera roll. For some reason, after the "memories" feature was added, videos I had saved from Snapchat prior to this update would not play in my camera roll, and I experienced the problem you all are here for.

I went into my Snapchat app, and found that all the videos I had saved prior to the "memories" update were automatically saved in the "memories" catalog within the Snapchat app. I downloaded and re-saved a couple of the videos that wouldn't play before, and BOOM! The newly saved Snapchat videos played perfectly. I deleted the old video files that wouldn't play, and the problem was solved. Hope this helps!

This has been a nightmare! I have upgraded to an iPhone 7 from iPhone 6 and half of my videos will not load, just has the white loading circle going round and round. I have tried resetting the settings, I've tried adding/sharing to iCloud as the top answer suggested and still nothing. Have even tried duplicating and it will get a quarter of the way through before stopping.

Can anyone else bring something to the table? Apple needs to fix this, honestly.

Are there other solutions to this fix or more importantly, can Apple just fix this so we don't have to do weird solutions? I am unable to view videos I recorded months ago (all this year) after my twins were born. These are all very important videos to me and it is frustrating that I can't even watch "first time" videos of my babies. What was the point of me buying a large capacity phone to hold all this when the phone won't play videos or takes forever to load an old picture?

I had this problem when I updated my iPhone 5 to iso8. Fix for me was to select the video, but instead of playing it, there is a tab at the bottom of the screen, chose the icon 2nd from right (looks like music sheet) 3 horizontal lines. It should now show circle slowly filling up and saying downloading video. Depending on the size of the video shouldn't take more then a few minutes. Then your video should play normally. Hope this works for you.

It's brilliant because the average user will buy a new phone to get more storage since they can't upgrade.

And iCloud is meant to link multiple Apple devices together, not so much as a backup storage area. It's more for multiple Apple devices in a little ecosystem, so they all stay together.

Of course the average user of other devices can probably manage that on their own as well. I feel iCloud is for those who want all the work done for them automatically, when it works how it should of course.

I originally posted here bcuz my vids wouldn't play. Then I had to delete a whole lot of stuff bcuz my phone was full. After deleted several apps I wasn't using to free up space and speed my phone back up, my videos started playing again. So I don't know if that will help or not.

Go to : Settings>General> Storage> Manage Storage

And see if your almost out of storage. If so delete some things and hopefully your videos will play again. 😀

I had the exact same problem for a while now, any videos that I had on my camera roll wouldn't play at all. I had tried everything that the discussion boards suggested. What I found worked for me was turning on my iCloud backup on my phone (settings > your name at the top > iPhone > iCloud backup) . I had always had it set to backup only when I plug it into my computer however right after I had toggled it over to have it backup on my phone I realized my videos began loading and playing.

This is currently happening to me as well, except not a single video will load nor can I send them in messages. Also the same with my pictures they all show a ! Sign at the bottom of them. And I have deleted almost everything on my phone and it still says the memory is full. I had android before I switched to iPhone man was that a mistake, I never had any of these problems with my android galaxy phones if you have never had an android and your experiencing here problem if I were you I would switch to android and give it a try i am sick and tired of all the problems with iPhone and now I am switching back to android as soon as I can.

Thé answer is quite simple. There is nothing wrong with our phones or setups. It’s just that Apple servers *****. Apple has never been able to correctly handle clouds. Look at google. They know how to deal with servers workload but Apple no. They made iDisk, me.com, iCloud and never they have been successful at being responsive. But they have billions. Glad to ear that. But i’d Rather have them spend those billions in offering jobs to google’s Network manager.

All google activities are network based. If they acted like Apple they would be dead for a long time.
