That is what I stated before. Mountain Lion will not run on this iMac, unfortunately we discovered that only after the upgrade was purchased and the redeem code was utilized. After we realized it will not run on this iMac we requested to exchange the purchase for Lion instead, but Apple does not offer an exchange or for that matter a refund on the purchase of the OS.

Nope, a 5,1 is compatible with ElCap (current release) but the information the OP gives is unreliable
