How to add subtitles to an MP4 file in iTunes

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 - how do I add subtitles to an MP4 (video) file that I want to play in iTunes? I have the subtitle file as an .srt file but I cannot associate the movie with the subtitle (.srt) file. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

If this is a video not purchased from iTunes why not simply play it and the subtitles file in VLC media player?
