it seems to me that its worse 😟
im not sure but i had 90% and went to dinner came back with 40%
My wifi was on but not in use. Im thinking about going back to 8.2
It is HORRIBLE. My 6s dies OVERNIGHT even after turning EVERYTHING off - BT, WiFi, iCloud etc...name a power saving strategy; I've tried it. Once I upgraded to 8.3 my battery life decreased DRAMATICALLY. I didn't spend over $600 to carry a phone I can't use for fear of it dying when I need it most.
I certainly hope Apple is paying attention to these complaints.
Mine is iOS 8.3 on 6 Plus 128GB. I didn't face with any such serious battery issue.
However since so many users are facing with serious battery issue, I have managed persuading one of my friends not updating to iOS 8.3 just for sure.

Never! This is achieved not even with the iPhone 6 plus
I'm charging while i take this screenshot. 😁😁
HAve same issue with ios 8.3 and iphone 4 S... battery becames very hot.. 2 days later it is broken... Cannot turn it on anymore... Now i have an other iphone 4 s...after updating to ios 8.3, the battery is heating up again... took a short test in aplle support, got error message that there is a problem with my battery... But i dont think so... That wasnt before updating on 8.3... Now ive turn it off... I hope apple pushes a new update in the next days
I am wondering if the issue is really with the battery or with the software. I have an iPhone 5 and upgraded to 8.3 last week and really did not notice an issue based on what I was normally doing. But this week I am traveling and I am using my phone more in the evening. The last two nights I have been using the phone at dinner and it has suddenly gone dead - as if the battery is dead. When I got to my room I plugged it into the charger. Tonight, I plugged it in and a couple of minutes later picked it up to make a call. The phone that had been dead a few minutes before was now showing 62% charged. No phone charges that much in 2-3 minutes. I think the battery monitoring routines in the OS are making us think the power has been used when actually the battery is fine and IOS 8.3 is screwed up.
. It is really hard to say whether it is a software or hardware issue from your description. We can make a guess by testing iPhone 6 Plus or 6 battery drain rate. The reason I say this is that iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is just the current version of iPhone, therefore no battery will go dead within a few months.
. Or, alternatively, if possible, I will do following.
1. Find users still using iOS 8.2, from iPhone 4s to iPhone 6 series, collect their feedback, and see if iOS 8.2 likely has no such issue. This step aims at finding out if this issue exist only on iOS 8.3.
2. Find users using 6 and 6 Plus, running iOS 8.3, and collect their feedback. This step aims at lowering the possible battery issues.
3. If possible, find users buying new iPhone 5 series within 6 months, and collect their feedback. IOS should be 8.3.
Not a practical approach, I think this might help, though.
RE: SW or HW issue
It depends on how you draw conclusions from the reported problems.
Most of these reports come from people who a) have older iphone products and b) have had normal product operation prior to the release of iOS8 and all its variants, particularly the latest release iOS8.3, with even more new features.
It would be correct to assume that older platforms would struggle with a more demanding OS, as is the case of iOS8, and so you can take the view it is a SW problem to overload the processing platform, or it's a HW problem because the old platform works much harder to get the same work done in real time. That is the crux of the matter.
I think it is of concern that there are emerging reports of older products overheating, i.e. iPhone 4 products. It could be a combination of over worked HW and battery. It is a known fact that an overheating product with a lithium battery is undesirable. This is some thing that has caused warranty returns in the PC world, and recently grounded new planes with inadequate precautions/protections for lithium batteries overheating.
I have reported earlier that iOS8 and all its variants seem to raise questions about energy management, and particularly on older products, but that aside, it is clear that older platforms are not coping with the new functionality/features in iOS8. Comparisons of older products with iPhone 6 should be put into context as this product was released on iOS8, and should be fit for purpose. Should an iPhone 6 variant be struggling with iOS8 then I would see that as a separate issue, but still of concern.
Col Klink reported Battery life problems on an iPhone 5 after updating to iOS8.3. This is also my situation. By switching off some of the new iOS8 features (e.g. enabling Accessibility>Reduced Motion) I have managed to improve battery life a bit, but still not to an acceptable level of battery life/performance as delivered on iOS6/7.
Update on today's experience. iPhone 5 with IOS 8.3. Started the morning 0630 at 100%. Basically did nothing with the phone until around 1700. At 0945 the battery was down to 88%. At 1713 it was at 62% and at around 1900 I answered a couple of IMs and then opened Facebook. Less than a minute later the screen went blank and it shut down. Got back to my room at 2150, plugged in the cord, no power yet and the phone started booting. Plugged in the charger and when it came up I had 25% battery and 20 minutes later after a phone call, 52%. 10 minutes later now and it is up to 66%. This sort of weirdness really sounds like software.
lateste update:
i've tried everything possible in order to solve this problem ( see my previous posts).
last and final thing i did was changing the battery, switching it with the one of the device of my girlfriend who has no problem whatsoever. both batteries have the same age since they have been both replaced at the same time.
guess what: my device stills drains, hers doesn't...........problem is purely software related, even switching back to 8.2 didn't change a thing, so the problem is settled deep into the iphones software. why other devices don't have any problems and others do is a mystery, maybe something went wrong when doing the update, wether using wifi or itunes, point is, once the problem is settled it seems irreversable whatever youbtrie to do, software or hardware-alike. hoping that apple takes this very seriously in search for a solution...............
Well, this should be enough to say the problem is likely coming from software.
Despite the power draining problem, I have serious issue on handoff and continuity. Guess what? Before I reset settings in my phone after completing the initial set up, iWorks never sync the changes even under very high quality internet connection and WiFi, bluetooth on. Handoff of safari didn't work from mac to iPhone, but work from iPhone to mac. After resetting settings, handoff works fine over iWork's. And other continuity features works better -- I say better, not fine.
So this is a really good try. I don't want to make comment in here, though.
Jumping battery percentage number? I didn't see this on my fairly old iPhone 4 with iOS 7.1.2. This device does work, but it can no longer work a whole day without charge. its battery is only 900mAh in total. That is the main reason I want to change iPhone 6 plus.
I am sorry to see you spend time on troubleshooting battery issues. This should not be end user's tasks.
Hope your phone will come back to its normal status.
PS: This current iphone 6 plus reports the current battery capacity is 2800mAh in total. I, unfortunately, cannot find how many cycles this battery has.
I upgraded from i0S7 to i0S8 last week for my iPad Air. Incredibly disappointed. Battery life has fallen through the floor.
So much so, I am lucky to get through two hours of use, and that is without WiFi. To be clear, I do not use location services, find my phone, and all the other notifications.
Very very very disappointed as I am at the stage there is no point to carry my iPad for use as a business tool
I just spent some days abroad and I was terrified because of the battery life issue. I even bought not one but two memory banks. But then, something unexpectected happened.
Because data usage while roaming was disabled, battery life was back to "normal". I was even using the phone a lot more than at home (for GPS geolocation apps, taking pictures, etc...). And the batterly usage was way better than at home without using it!! I did not use the memory banks at all!
As soon as I came back home and data over 3G/4G is enabled again, it comes back to the miserable few hours battery life ... without taking pictures, no GPS geolocating software, no email checking, nothing. Battery usage report is out of focus again (home & lock screen, mail with low signal connection, and similar). I'm using the memory banks just to get through the day.
So, in my experience: it does not seem to be a hardware issue, I cannot tell it's a specific application, but it's some kind of background activity related with cell data usage or check. Again, I have background refesh, push notification, and others DISABLED and I close open apps all the time, so there's no way to control this background network activity. The only way is to enable airplane mode or disable cell data completely!
Its sad and it's been such a long time since this situation started, I just hope anyone at Apple would consider checking this issue....
