After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3, launching Messages freezes my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), requiring a hard restart (power off). I didn't back up prior to the upgrade, so I can't roll back to 10.10.2. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I've already tried moving the iChat.plist out of the Preferences folder, restarting, and launching Messages, and that didn't do the trick.

I'm having the same issue. Updating to the newest version of 10.10.3 to see if that solves the problem.
FYI - I am on the version of 10.10.3 that was released to the public on 8 April.
Having the same issue here. It will work in Safe Mode (Hold Shift during start-up) but will not work in normal start. I have deleted all the com.apple.ichat plists restarted and still have the same issue. This is freakin ridiculous
Messages worked when I upgraded to the latest 10.10.3. Not sure if it will keep working. I did dump the preference files before updating to the newest 10.10.3.
Disregard that last post. Messages is still freezing up on my macbook pro.
I have the same issue. I required to restart several times and don't launch messages.
So i called apple support. I just took 2 hours of my day to run a restore (CMD R during startup and reinstall) did not fix the problem. Now my messages are ****** due to this freaking update. The app will not work period.
My workaround is to set messages to open at login. That seems to get it up and running, but I have to always have it on. Not digging that. I'm finding that if I quit messages, it will not start back up until I restart the machine and login again.
It's a pain in the neck.
The next time the problem happens, note the date and time the problem occurred, then go to Applications/Utilities/Console and copy the log starting at the time of the crash. Paste the log in a reply. Please do not use a screen shot as they can be hard to read. If there are repeated runs of the same messages, please post only one run. Be selective about what you post and don’t post huge amounts. Make sure there is no personal data visible. Information learned from Linc Davis.

In Applications/Utilities open the Disk Utility app.
Choose the Disk and the "Repair Permissions".

I already tried repairing permissions, and it did not resolve the problem.
Steps already taken....
1. Reset pRAM
2. Verified Disk
3. Verified Permissions / Repaired Permissions
4. Booted in Safe Mode (works in Safe Mode)
5. Deleted all ichat plists
6. Reinstalled (Cmd R)
7. Ran Combo 10.10.3 updater

In that case I am not sure what to suggest.
If you open Activity Monitor does this list anything that is either stuck (Not Responding) or using large amounts of CPU time ?

No, and once you click messages you can't click on anything else it has taken over the system basically. then the rainbow wheel of death.....
