Messages freezing after upgrade to Yosemite 10.10.3

After upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3, launching Messages freezes my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), requiring a hard restart (power off). I didn't back up prior to the upgrade, so I can't roll back to 10.10.2. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? I've already tried moving the iChat.plist out of the Preferences folder, restarting, and launching Messages, and that didn't do the trick.

Thanks.

Hi,

What about open Activity Monitor first and then trying it ?

It is late where I am and there will be a significant time gap before I am back.

***UPDATE***

So i went back and verified disk / verified permissions / repaired permissions (nothing was wrong but printers...)

Then i closed all apps but the console and activity monitor.

I cleared the console then preceded to open messages.app (planned on waiting the $#%^# out)

nothing appeared in the console log or different in activity monitor

I got impatient after about 7 min so i tried to take a screenshot and nothing....

Then I tried to open excel (random click) and nothing.

Waited about 7 more min and all of the sudden click click click (screenshots) excel opened messages opened....

I closed messages and tried to reopen and it opened right up. Seems to be working now but I will continue to monitor.

I have two mac books identical apart from the aps. Both suffered form the Freezing Message app.

I have restored one to previous version and all works fine. The other I did a clean install of 10.10.3 and if like magic all is working fine.

A pain as i have now had to reconfigure the mac to my liking but at least its working.

Looks like the direct update rout screws up your machine. The fact that others out there are having issues, suggest to me there is something wrong with the update process.

I also have the same issues. Mid-2014 Macbook 15" Pro. I did an "upgrade" to 10.10.3 on Wed. night from my home network.

Now Messages shows the same symptoms. It gets hung upon start and can freeze/bog down the system. Here are some of my notes:

- When I try to launch it, can take between 2 and 10 min to start. It is not consistent.

- it is related to the iCloud account. If I go to Message preference and disable the iCloud account, the app starts right away.

- I have done all the recommendations on repair disk, permission, and nuke plists (That did not fix anything)

I would agree that it is upgrade related. Messages worked flawlessly on various networks prior to this.

Any other suggestions by folks on the Community would be appreciated.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.
