GMAIL Accounts unusable after 8.3 update!

I have lost access to my GMAIL accounts after upgrading to IOS 8.3 !

IOS Settings does not provide me a way to enter a new application password for the account - there is NO PASSWORD box displayed anywhere in the GMAIL configuration. So I tried deleting the account and re-adding it but i get stuck in an endless loop of two-step confirmation and it "appears" to add the account (prompts me for which features - mail, notes, calendar, etc.) but then when all is said and done NO GMAIL ACCOUNT shows up in my list of accounts. WTH?

And trying to navigate Apple's support screens has become an exercise in frustration and futility!

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this mess?

I also had experienced this issue. You need to power off the iPad or iPhone.

To Power off this is to hold the On/Off button and slide the power off. Wait for a couple of seconds when it's done loading.

Another way is to remove your Email account from settings and add it back on settings.

After reading, & rereading your post, I don't think that Keychain is storing these other passwords. When I setup an email on any of my iOS devices, the password is not autofilled, I have to enter it every time. If I go to google.com via Safari, then my password is autofilled if I tap 'sign in'. On my Mac, accessing the passwords saved by iCloud Keychain is the somewhat the same as accessing them on my iOS devices. On my Mac, I open Safari, then from the dropdown menu click on Preferences->tap the Passwords tab and there I can view or change the websites that have been setup through keychain. The passwords that appear there are the same as the ones on my iOS devices.

I do not have my Gmail password there but I do have my google account password which is the same password.

Whatever is happening with the gmail authentication process, I think it is a separate issue, perhaps with the servers timing out or something to do with their 2 step verification & no longer needing the app specific password as of iOS 8.3

I still have not updated to 8.3 so I haven't run into the problem though I do have some issues with my Gmail using the iOS mail app, specifically crashing due to either a large number of emails coming in at once or due to the email sizes themselves. Again, this could be a server issue.

i Was having mail issue after updating iPhone 6 to ios 8.3 with gmail and yahoo mail not sending or receiving on phone or Macbook Air mail applications. Saw a thread in another post suggesting some success after deleting and manually re-entering as other rather than default (yahoo example given). Air needed update to 10.10.3 so started that downloading. Went (on phone) to try the work around suggested. Here is what happened!

Went to settings ---- mail, contacts, calendars

1. before trying suggestion of deleting gmail I clicked on Gmail Account >

2. SMTP (Gmail SMTP server) >

3. SMTP page listed

PRIMARY SERVER

GMAIL SMTP SERVER -----> ON

OTHER SMTP SERVER

smtp.gmail.com ------> OFF (I clicked on this line)

4. next page I changed server to -------> ON

checked to see if e-mailing to myself through gmail would work and it did, interestingly e-mailing to myself through yahoo also worked

went back to settings and turned the same button back to the OFF position and gmail worked, yahoo didn't

once laptop update completed, the macbook air gmail worked, yahoo didn't

repeated above steps for yahoo to turn on other SMTP server and yahoo worked after turning on and still worked after turning off.

Phone seems to have shared with Macbook Air as it works as well (although turn around of getting the mail is a little slower than usual - particularly with yahoo). I'm not sure if this impacts sync of contacts/ calendars/ etc. Probably just got lucky.

I tried doing all of those things without luck.

Finally, yesterday, by sheer chance and luck, I was able to add my account. I have not changed any settings in my iPhone or my GMail account since I first replied to this thread, but for some reason out of my control, I added my account and was able to sync. Sadly, today, I am getting the dreaded IMAP error. Because my GMail account had previously refused to sync over my work's wifi network, and only on my home network, I will attempt some experiments and tests when I get home. I am wondering if connecting to ANY wifi network but my own home network has some odd connection.

Same problem. No option to enter app specific password. i can set up gmail but cant enter app specific password. this all happened after restoring to factory and updating.

I think i fixed it by going to Settings/Mail/Gmail/Account/SMTP click on add server and set up as:

Host name: smtp.gmail.com

Username : (my Gmail address)

Password: (App specific password)

Use SSL set to On

Authentication set to Password

Seems to be working now. Receiving emails. Still no option to enter password for account in settings.

Same problem here. My phone was randomly rebooting with 8.3 so I decided to do a clean install. My personal gmail account went in without incident, but when I tried to add my work one (also a google account), I got through the authorize phase and then nothing. Oddly, I can get my work email on my phone because I'm using Dispatch for email, but my calendar is MIA. It appears it broke at the two-factor authentication step. I tried rebooting to no avail.

I had a similar problem and it seems to have resolved itself. I got the error message on my old iPad 2 - it was after the upgrade but not immediately after - probably a week or so? The error message said it couldn't access my Gmail account (although I have 3, and it could access the other two apparently) and when I went to check the password, as other people have said, the entry field for password no longer appears.

After reading this, I went to my MacBook Air and noticed Apple Mail also couldn't access the same Gmail account. So, I went and re-entered my password in Mail on the MacBook Air, and about 30mins later, without any restart of software or hardware, the iPad started downloading mail again.

Someone at Apple will no doubt say this is a new feature, rather than a problem, but its frustrating as ****.

I, too, have the same problem. I shut it down, forced reboot, deleted then added gmail (3 times), and even restored the phone. Same problem.

It's strange, because mail "receives" messages but when I open the mail program, I get the blank screen and then, after a few seconds, it crashes. So: my calendars and contacts are all good but the actual mail is nowhere to be seen (although I get the amount of messages in red).

My only workaround is using the gmail application, which works fine but when you're used to the mail program, it's hard to swallow.

Hopefully the bug gets fixed soon and this is not some conspiracy against gmail.

After reading all of the solutions to this problem I finally decided to reset my passwords. EVERYTHING IS BACK TO NORMAL. Apple should be ashamed of its customer service. This was not a Google problem. I do understand when a major upgrade does not work. But it is deplorable to think that Apple was still beta testing 8.3 and using all of us to get the bugs out. If that is not the case how was any of the problems everyone encountered were not found prior to installation?
